Twickenham / Future London Gigs

Prowler
Hey guys,

I noticed at the Twickenham gig a few years ago they were playing during daylight hours, which didn't do much for the atmospherics at all. Why did they play during the daytime? Sort of hoping that trend doesn't continue at future concerts.

Am I right in saying that they don't tend to play in London very much? When might they be playing next? Is it not surely time to play a Wembley Stadium concert?

Cheers.

The gig was during the height of British summertime mate (early July) - it was a scorching day as well for once !
They came on stage about 8pm if I remember rightly (WAY too many beers !) and it didn't even begin to go dark until gone 10pm.

Steve has often said he'd love to play a gig at his sacred Upton Park one day before they finish touring but I've never known any gig to take place there before. It would be a long-shot - he'd have to get the ok off that pair of soft-porn barons that run the club these days.

They also played here in summer but, thankfully, Bruce was late for the show...he was in Italy that day and his charter was late.
I think they started around 10 PM.

Edit : ...which reminds me that Donington 2007 was also started in daylight. Wonder how will that look on the DVD.

The problem Maiden had at Twickenham was that I remember hearing that they had to obtain a residential agreement to allow the gig to go ahead, which they (thankfully ) obtained on the proviso that the music had stopped by 10:30pm.

I doubt they would have played Twickenham or any other outdoor gig in Britain in the winter.

I do recall something like that and it's not surprising (from what I recall, Bruce said something about this at the gig). You need to remember where Twickenham is - it's right in the middle of a very well-to-do residential area. Even major rugby events are limited at this stadium - England can only play a limited amount of internationals here each season.

Yeah, I hope Maiden play at Upton Park. Upton has held live boxing and whatnot, but like you said it would be a long-shot to hold live music there.

I heard that they won't be releasing that DVD because there was too many flags.

You think right. Always has had a roof.

I like the dark a lot more with Maiden and most other bands.  This north, you just don't get any darkness in the summer until very late in the evening/night; in addition, performance times are regulated and usually outdoor gigs have to end at 10.  Fear of the Dark just should not be played in sunlight.

That being said, I prefer seeing more aggressive bands in proper lighting.  The going can get pretty wildin the pit, so I like actually seeing something too.

I really am surprised to know that there are people who play even in the daylight. Anyway, too much of my astonishment, I was wondering as if the same could be applied in New York streets sometime. Boy O Boy, he would get sued for sure. Anyway, I know incidents of such even in my case without getting caught and it was really a nuisance and something that affected my sleep very much causing me to lose some of my health as well

If the sun sets at 9 in the summer, there's not really much you can do.

Adrian Smith would have a plan - but he cannot implement it due to his own self-imposed rule of not interfering with the hand dealt to us by the Big Bang.

Yeah, he made a little remark in his speech before the encore about the crowd wanting more music, but that "the residents of Twickenham like to get to sleep"...so he proceeded to promise they'd be finished before all the pubs shut

But i thought twickenham was a pretty solid venue, I'd go see them if they played there again

I highly doubt maiden would play wembley arena due to it only having a capacity of around 10,000, wembley stadium is more likely!  :shred:
