I get that you want people to listen critically here, Foro, but we've come to a finale consisting of very popular instrumental tracks. Some of us have heard these songs over 1,000 times and no amount of "putting songs into new contexts" is going to make us vote differently. Personally, I've heard the Metallica songs far more than the Rush ones, so it's still a bit of a game for me. Other folks, however, cannot be expected to change their minds on what they love based on repeated listenings.

If you feed me pizza 100x and then put pizza next to a delicious steak and demand I eat them in some mythical new context that is supposed to make me see food in a different light and change my opinion...I'm still picking pizza, because I know I love it.

And the thing is, it's not that I haven't looked at these songs critically either.
 
Having listened to them several times recently, the Rush songs are now having the Satriani effect on me. I was never crazy about them in the first place, and while I appreciated them more in the earlier rounds, other songs are now proving far more enjoyable to listen to.
 
Pizza > Steak
Strangiato > Ktulu

But I get where RTC is coming from. Ktulu and Strangiato are songs I've known for a very long time and even listening to them back to back and comparing them isn't going to change my opinion of them, especially when one (Villa) would probably be my favorite rock instrumental of all time. And it's not like we can't listen critically anyway, despite having a preconceived pick. I had never compared Ktulu and Strangiato before and now this game is forcing me to do so. It's cool because they each showcase two sides of music that I love: atmosphere (Ktulu) and exciting technical playing (Villa). These are also my #1 songs from the respective bands. Not just instrumental, but in general. Strangiato still wins this one, but I can't think of a more worthy competitor than Ktulu.
 
Steak is country miles better than pizza. The only thing I'd choose over a steak would be a kebab*. Not a fake one, though, one prepared in Turkey. :p

* Adana Kebab, specifically
 
Three reasons to vote for Rush:

1. They creatively, even innovatively, incorporate an old jazz melody most famous from cartoons into their masterpiece.
2. I checked the Canadian translation on Google and "La Villa Strangiato" is a totally legit title.
3. Americans are hosers.

Three reasons to vote against Metallica:

1. Their song is just a classical music ripoff, and classical music sucks.
2. They misspelled Cthulhu!
3. Canucks never pronounce why-why-zee correctly.
