Slayer was an outside example. I didn't compare the two because they were similar. My point was that Slayer at least have atmosphere and depth to their music and they sound unique even though they suck. This one doesn't even have those qualities. Most metal either lacks an atmosphere, is one dimensional or sounds too compressed without any breathing room, and they turn into stuff that are not unique sounding in the end.
"Awesome" constant riffing/soloing, fast paced drumming most of the time don't do anything for me. If I'm going to like a one dimensional song, the structure and atmosphere have to be absolutely top notch. Morbid Angel and Testament spring to my mind. When it comes to my taste, they sound like bands that I'm not going to like, but they have amazing song structures, flow and atmosphere to their music despite being one dimensional.
