So how does Ticketmaster get away with charging 1/3 of a ticket for a "convenience fee?"
To stand on the lawn at an outdoor stadium it's around 35 bucks....TM convenience fee....12 bucks. I call bullshit.
It's legalized scalping....try and get tickets from the box office for the venue of the show you want to see. Good luck with that because Ticket Master bought up 90% of the tickets.
My point exactly. The box office will always selll to Ticketmaster because they will sell out 90% of the tickets to them. But at least the Ticketmaster website is more improved than it was 10 years ago. Plus you don't have to buy them over the phone anymore(which was a complete pain in the ass.)
I"m thinking I'd like to waive the convienience fee and opt for the inconienence fee....which would be free and probably no harder to get a ticket in your hand.
BS...I think.
Worse is they say the show is "sold out" and direct you to TicketsNow to buy highly inflated tickets on the after-market. Except TicketsNow is also owned by Ticketmaser. TM simply sells premium seats through TicketsNow at highly inflated prices when those tickets were never actually sold to a legitimate buyer through the main Ticketmaster web site.
Ticketmaster settled a lawsuit over this for Bruce Springsteen tickets:
"after Ticketmaster used what the Federal Trade Commission calls 'deceptive tactics' by routing Bruce Springsteen fans to secondary-ticket retailer TicketsNow when regular-priced tickets were still available"
Ticketmaster sucks, and are partnered with most venues and promoters. The best way around Ticketmaster is to provide direct access for fans through a fanclub arrangement like Iron Maiden. Many other bands do this as well such as Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band and Metallica.
For Iron Maiden, I have never had a problem walking up to the venue day-of-show and buying at the box office or from another fan trying to dump an extra ticket to "anyone but a scalper". If you don't have any moral qualms about going to a scalper, they are usually dumping tickets at less than cost as show time approaches.
I don't know about other venues, but the Maiden fanclub presale was handled by Ticketmaster in Denver. You don't avoid Ticketmaster that way - you just get the honor of being ripped off first.
I feel the pain. I just bought 3 ticket for the DC/Bristow show and each ticket was $73 dollars, PLUS a $15 dollar "convenience charge" ON EACH TICKET!! That's $45 dollars that I spent and have no idea why, or where that money went!
