Thoughts on Music by Steve Jobs

Could well be. I've generally avoided all news stories about Michael Jackson for the last few years, so I may have missed that.

Regarding the Beatles on iTunes...

I don't know if they're on iTunes, because I am not an iTunes user. However, the news story I read about the EMI deal specifically pointed out that the Beatle's were not included.

The dispute between the Beatles and iTunes has nothing to do with Michael Jackson. It's a long running dispute over the name "Apple". The Beatles established Apple Records in the late 60s, just before they broke up. When Apple Computers started up, a dispute over the name arose. Long long ago, the two parties struck up a deal where the Beatles agreed not to sue as long as Apple Computers stayed out of the music business. When Apple started iTunes, the Beatles sued for hundreds of millions of dollars. The case was settled out of court a couple of years ago, but the Beatles still simply don't like Apple Computers.

I remember that dispute. It was settled because the judge ruled that a music store is not exactly the music business, i.e not a record company or anything resembling such business, but merely a distributer of already existing music.
