thoughts about how Senjutsu might work live

Dick Brucinson

The TRUE Dick Brucinson
if my memory serves me well I read recently that Maiden were going to stage the album in its entirety, which is a thing to look forward to.
if they do so:
what do you think will be the strong moments of the album transformed to a live situation? what moments/parts are you personally looking forward to? were do you see problems are going to happen and why?

remembering The Book Of Souls, one of my favourite parts of the album ("ascending the trone wearing feathers and shells..."etc...) didn't work at all live because it was just too much for Bruce.

It certainly is a thing to look forward to!

Imagine the building of excitement of the fans on the beginning of Senjutsu. The Now under siege part will be a goosebump moment for sure. Also its transition into Stratego.
what moments/parts are you personally looking forward to?
The moments mentioned above + hearing the brilliantThe Parchment live followed by the also Harrisian masterpiece we all know as Hell On Earth.
were do you see problems are going to happen and why?
Me fainting of awe.

Problems - the queue at the bar during Darkest Hour and the roof aactually coming down when Fear of the Dark kicks in.

Wonder Joy - chorus' of Stratego and TWOTW (Bruce Bruce will stun us here), the good bit of Time Machine, intro/outro of Days will be interesting, the "take me there" bit of The Parchment and whole place bouncing in unison and woah woahing as Hell on Earth kicks in (maybe only South America has the moxy for this one and I'll end up doing it on my own somewhere in Ireland). And I have a feeling that the light show will be super extra good this time. Not that its ever anything below super good.

Writing on the Wall will sound so good live. Cant wait for it. Senjutsu will be really interesting and I think Parchment and Hell on Earth are gonna sound even more powerful and awesome live. Would love to see the whole album being played live to be honest

The whole fantastic album live will be something special. I think the title track will sound epic, ''The Parchment'' will be even more mesmerizing and ''Hell On Earth'' will be a perfect live song.

Strong moments transformed to a live situation - the part in the title track that starts with ''Hear them coming'' (hard part for Bruce), the pre-chorus of ''Stratego'', the instrumental part of ''The Time Machine'', the verses of ''Darkest Hour'', the vibe of ''The Parchment'', the melodies in ''Hell On Earth...

What moments/parts I'm looking forward to - the whole title track (especially Nicko's drumming, Bruce's singing and Adrian's 2nd solo), the chorus of ''Stratego'', Adrian's solos in ''The Writing On The Wall'' and '"Darkest Hour'', the instrumental part of ''The Time Machine'', Steve's bass playing in ''Death Of The Celts'', the intro of ''Lost In A Lost World'', the riff and the chorus of ''Days Of Future Past'', all 6 solos and ''Meet me there'' part in ''The Parchment'' and the whole ''Hell On Earth'', but mostly the chorus, the calm middle part and ''Love in anger, life in danger'' part.
-> I expect the stage set to be amazing.

I don't think there will be problems with the songs live. Maybe the ''ah-ahs'' in the intro of ''Lost In A Lost World''?

Will they play it as one ala MOTD tour or do you think they will break it up with other tracks? Show will be 14/15 tracks probably so if they do break it up some Senjutsu songs will be in the encore.

Bruce said that this is an idea, IIRC. I personally think it would be cool because we will have the element of surprise. They did the traditional way with AMOLAD, so let's see this option too.

I think what would be interesting to see, since we all know the album itself is going to be insanely great either way, is what they would do for the encore. I’d think this album would be tricky to do a really big closing run after, just given how huge everything before it will be.

You know how I would do it?
Hell on Earth right at the beginning! Just cut your audience in half right at the start. Some wouldn't recognize those first three minutes over the PA, they would probably shout "Play classics", take a selfie and leave. Others would get a heart attack from sheer awesomeness.
After that, it doesn't really matter what is played until encore. And for encore:
  • Senjutsu
  • The Nomad
  • The Parchment
Those who don't survive this gig - good, we don't need weak people anyway.
Those who do survive would go home, contemplate their life choices and then decide to make a world a better place.
Win-win for everybody.

Amazing. This would be the modern equivalent of the Blaze years. The band would be fucked. Drastic action would be required. They would surely reunite with Di'Anno and Stratton in order to win back fans. And the album released by this 8 man line up would slap like fuck.

I mean, doubtless the pagoda-esque stage set will look cool

Which would at least keep me entertained during the interminable monotone chugging of The Parchment
as to the stage, I think anyway they should come up with something interesting. since 1990 it's the same concept of using backdrops. sure, this has some kind of effect at a relative low expense (easy to transport) but it's nothing special and was never really interesting. especially when compared to their cool theme-based stage sets of the 1980s (LAD, SIT, SSOASS).

They’ve never stopped using cool stage sets though? I’m confused.

And I'll take Maiden's approach - the more organic variety - over the screens of some of their peers. The focus is usually on the band members and not the background.

How about doing a bit like Europe for The Final Countdown Anniversary Tour? They played a few unrelated songs to begin with, then the full album, and the classics to finish.
It could look a bit like this:

The Wicker Man/ Aces High/ Be Quick Or Be Dead (let's dream ;) )
The Evil That Men Do
The Trooper

Senjutsu

The Number of the Beast
Fear of the Dark
Iron Maiden

Encores:
Run To The Hills
2 Minutes To Midnight / Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter (let's dream pt 2! ;) )
Sanctuary/ Wasted Years

I'm not saying it is my dream setlist but I think it is plausible if they manage their stamina well.
