Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 05/10/08)

:applause:

Not bad at all, Thingfish. Good rendition of a very cool song from a very great album. (Of course, Maiden should be credited for the two last points, but you deserve credit for the first one :))

I must agree about commentary on your voice.  This is probably the best I've heard your voice.  Your pace does not match the original (I realize the timing is the same), but that's OK, as the voice is much crisper.  I love the voice-over, it gives it an eerie feel.  "You fucking die".  :D  I love both solos, but Adrian's sounds a bit better acoustically.

Crisp and clean. No doubt about your musical evolution eh Thingfish? As usual your unique accent stands out, though the prechorus lacks a little stressing, it sounds natural all the same. The verses are very great though!  :yey: The solos sound amazing with your guitar style! Another one for the Thingfish classics!  :ok:

Thankyou all for listening and for the kind comments :) Much appreciated!  :D

Great stuff, Thingfish. You just seem to be getting better and better, especially with your vocals.  I think your vocals really suited the song.  My only gripe was that in the beginning I thought the percussion was a bit too loud, and distracted me from the guitars and bass.  But it's only my opinion on a small cosmetic touch, so don't worry.

Thanks, Invader :) That may just be down to Putfile.com not having any equalizer when playing music from it. It'll soon be available on http://www.notb.org/thingfish with the rest of my mp3s for download. Please have a listen to it through some quality headphones and you'll hopefully hear that it is mixed properly!

I 100% agree with you on what you said in the spoiler and that was the first thing I thought when the set list came out. I'm with Invader here you're voice sounds like it gets better and better every time. Stranger in a Strange land has one of my favourite solos and lets say I like it a little more now. ;) Keep up the great work!

EDIT: Listing to Somewhere in time your vocals in all the songs are really really good!

Very nice work, congrats Thinkfish !

Old Thingfish is back again with the next installment of his Maiden Acoustic project! It's taken the best part of a month to record this 9/1/2-minute-long song and it's been a combination of all my instruments: acoustic guitar, acoustic bass, mandolin and my electric guitar played unplugged :) A lot of work has gone into it, but I like to think it's been worth it. I hope you do to, and that you all enjoy it!

Here is....'The Legacy'!!!

Enjoy it!!!

Nice one again! :D

The unplugged electric guitar in that break in the middle part of the song is a really nice touch, quieter than an accoustic guitar. The mandolin fits in quite nicely.

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 23/03/08)

Yes, it's me, back after a 2 month hiatus brought about by a change in computer from Windows to Mac and subsequent problems in recording, coupled with a desire to spend my time playing Grand Theft Auto IV :) Have you been missing my regular deliveries of Maidenic goodness? :)

Anyway, this time I've returned with another rocker, a fairly simple track to ease my way back into the way of things, but a great song nonetheless!

'Wildest Dreams'!!

Great stuff, Thingfish, I was wondering where you had disappeared to.

Is the Mac easier for this project than Windows or was there another reason you changed?

Re: Thingfish's Acoustic Maiden Covers (new track added : 04/06/08)

No, it was just time to buy another computer and I wanted a 24" iMac (one of these: http://www.apple.com/imac/design/ ) and so I got it and installed a virtualized version of Windows on it using a piece of software called Parallels alongside the Mac operating system, since my recording software, Cubase SX3, only works on Windows.

There were, unfortunately, a number of teething troubles with soundcards and recording audio through the Parallels software which caused me a lot of bother, and I've not resolved these yet, so I just went back to doing the recording on my laptop just like I did all the others  <_<

Anyway, I can use the laptop as a dedicated recording computer for the moment, so that's fine :)

If you use Boot Camp instead of Parallels, you can install the bundled OS X drivers that come with Leopard.  That should allow you to use the digital in port on the iMac in Windows.

I can actually record ok using my Samson Q1U USB mike, it's the output through Parallels that is the problem, it is very choppy if you try to reduce the latency to a usable level. I believe it is indeed being addressed by the Parallels' manufacturer, but it does indeed sound like Boot Camp is the best idea, though
