The Worst of the Beast

The same thing happens to me every time I see the Duellists on people's lists and it is frightengly (to me) often.

I just can't find anything to like about this song.  -_-

The following has to do with taste, but still:

I really can't understand what can be so boring or dislikable about it. That instrumental part is so Maidenish, the harmonies, such beautiful solos, such great bass playing underneath. I even think (I can't prove it) that the chorus features Adrian Smith backing vocals, which makes it special as well. The couplets contain intruiging vocals which are one of Bruce's best and most difficult performances on that album (the speed of the words and the fast changing of notes, the height of some notes - all this combined is no chicken shit).

I guess this is indeed the song which raises my eyebrows the most, everytime I see it on someone's worst list. But I am getting used to it, no prob! :)

I am certainly much closer to agreeing with Foro than with Perun on this one ... each to his own and all that, I find the song very good. That is one of the reasons why I don't agree with those who talk about "Fillerslave" as The Duellists is one of the songs that is usually labeled as "filler".

But of course, having two songs about friggin' swordfighting after each other is a bit cheesy  :P
