The Worst of the Beast

My worst of album would consist of the following:

Track One: Silence for 60 minutes

As I can honestly say there is a Maiden song I hate (sure some are weaker than others) then I cannot bring myself to list an album of weak songs.

^ You know, I was going to say something like "Isn't there something fundamentally wrong in making lists like this about a band that has given us so much joy?"

But... then I remembered this:

- "The Sheriff of Huddersfield" – 3:35
- "Black Bart Blues" – 6:41
- "Nodding Donkey Blues" – 3:17
- "Justice of the Peace" – 3:33

Yes, yes, I know... they were in the Bahamas or something, there was alcohol involved...

they did it for the LOLZ... (a term that hadn't even been invented...  )

WOW... clairvoyant maiden is BAD ASS!!!  :yey:

I'll go with the tracks i almost always skip (chrono order);

1. Iron Maiden
2. Gangland
3. Quest For Fire
4. Hooks In You
5. Weekend Warrior
6. From Here To Eternity
7. The Angel And The Gambler

I'd rate those as very low for Maiden standards. However, with same singer and with unified production this 7 songs would make twice better-than-average metal album.

Do you honestly skip 'iron maiden'? It's great!!!!

Same here  :)

No.  Just because we like, we love a band doesn't mean we can't at times be critical of some of what they've done.  Slathering at everything Iron Maiden's done is pointless fanboyism, and I won't succumb to that, nor would I expect anyone else here to.

My list is:

Gangland
Quest For Fire
Back In the Village
Hooks in You
Chains of Misery
The Apparition
The Aftermath
The Angel And The Gambler
The Pilgrim

Taking into account B Sides

Black Bart Blues
Roll Over Vic Vella
My Generation

Since they were made by other musicians, do they belong on this kinda list..?

My Generation = the Who
Roll over Vic Vella = Chuck Berry's Roll Over Beethoven w/ different lyrics...

See the part you missed, buddy..?  ;)

I think Justice of the Peace is a pretty good song.  Not amazing, but it should have replaced The Unbeliever or Man on the Edge on The X-Factor.

Or add both Justice of the Peace and Judgement Day to make a double album.

Seens as The Who's version is great and Maiden's is shite, and Roll Over Vic Vella is just plain awful i thought they did belong if you were to include B sides.
A lot maiden's b-sides are covers and are quite good, but those two just stank in my book.

Yeah, I never really enjoyed Virus.  It has some good moments, but weak production, a plodding intro, an no solo.

I think that Virus is great. Worst Maiden A-side? Women In Uniform.

A song no one has mentioned: Virus.  There!

Thats because its good! My favourite single. I've always liked the lyrics especially.
Another song from that era I've always liked is I Live My Way - which should also have been included on The X Factor along with Justice of the Peace and Judgement Day.

Agreed, I don't think it did Maiden any favours and I have no idea why they agreed to play it at all.

I quite like Holy Smoke more and more with the years -it's one of my favs out of NPftD in deed

and no; I hate Angel & Gambler but the LP version -the single version is more than ok to me
so for worst A-side ever *let's see* yes Women in Uniform it could be but is a cover song

an original one could be Wildest Dreams

1) Wildest Dreams
2) Another Life
3) Twilight Zone
4) Run Silent Run Deep
5) Gangland
6) Sun and Steel
7) Quest for Fire
8) The Duellists

There would even be potential for a double CD (not including B side material):

1) Back in the Village
2) Sea of Madness
3) The Angel and the Gambler (the full album version)
4) Gates of Tomorrow
5) Invaders
6) Still Life
7) Die with Your Boots On
8) Innocent Exile

The second CD is better than the first, though. Oh, and I hate Wildest Dreams so much that I deleted it from my itunes just to avoid ever hearing it (in shuffle mode, or whatever), because it isn't even worth the effort it would take to press the button to move on to the next song. Yes, that's how much I dislike it. A bit of a secret of mine is that as an album I don't much like Piece of Mind (just saying). I don't think the album Fear of the Dark has anything terribly dreadful on it, but it's very mediocre. And NPFTD isn't as bad as some think. And I love The X Factor. That's my 2 cents.
