I was wondering if the art was original or came from an old drawing or art from way back when?

But the best "cover" of that cover is "The Reckoning" from Iced earth

This is the Gadsden flag, an American symbol of freedom and of the so-called "spirit of '76". The motto on it is "Don't Tread On Me", and that's Metallica's alternate and less-known title of their "Black Album", hence the coiled snake on the cover.
After all, Iced Earth and Metallica are compatriots.

It's an American thing..That's my favorite Symbol, and coincidentally the only Metallica song I like, "Don't Tread On Me" that artwork rocks, because my friends call me anti-american because i idolize the trooper picture and since Iced Earth, being the Gods they are, made that now us American's have something cool like that!
You're anti-American because you like The Trooper cover? Man...

I think he means Something Wild, as that reaper bears a stronger resemblence to the DOD one.
