If you’re scared of clowns maybe. There are some gruesome scenes and overall it’s scarier than the 2017 film but I dunno if that’s saying much. I do like the way it touches on the theme of fear.

But, like any King story, it’s about the characters. Probably why Stand By Me is my favorite work of his so far.

Edit: Nevernind the last part, I thought King wrote the screenplay but turns out it was just adapted from one of his stories. I haven’t checked out the source material. Still, I see a lot of parallels with It especially.

Missed the It discussion. I see that the Watching thread has moved on so I’m taking this to the Stephen King thread.
Really? I didn’t think It was even considered the best Stephen King novel, let alone the best in the genre (hard to see it stacking against something like Dracula). There are a lot of great things about It but the book is also pretty flawed and it shows that it was written at a peak in King’s drug use. Not to say it’s bad, I love it despite the flaws. Far from the greatest of anything though imo.
I mean, I have no clue since I’ve not yet read the book. It seems to be one of the most popular horror novels out there though.

Well it has had newfound exposure thanks to the film. You might see something similar happen this year with Pet Sematary.

Actually, it was well before the film that I first saw praise for the book among horror fans, but I'll admit that the younger generation is definitely more involved now.

Pet Sematary is a lot scarier than It, in my opinion. I read both in my early teens, if that matters.

It was an example of a sleep paralysis that extended for a while even after I was startled awake, thanks to my confused brain. It scared the shit out of me, though.
Thank you. I understand how the book could enhanced or influenced in your thoughts. Terrifying experience!

Late reply, but yes! Would place it among his very best, a strong personal favourite only eclipsed by 11/22/63 and the final Dark Tower-novel.

Good, now I just gotta hurry up and finish Dark Tower. I’ve been stuck on Song of Susannah for too long.

Kinda neat how King steals from his own books.

It's been a long time so forgive me if I get the books mixed up on this one, but either Tommyknockers is a combo of It & Dreamcatcher, or Dreamcatcher is a combo of It & Tommyknockers.

Also, I recently I read The Outsider & realized the end is from It.

Little rag tag bunch go underground to kill a monster. (ok, a couple get killed before they go down, but still...)
