The Results (percentages only) of the Iron Maiden Survey are finally available

Hi everybody,

Dengue and typhoid within a couple of weeks, I cannot say that the year 2008 has well started as far as I'm concerned.

Feeling a bit better now, I'm back to work and as promised, the results of the survey are available in the 7 languages at the same address : http://www.ironthesis.org/

I will need your help soon to get "qualitative" information in order to back up the results.

You've been 4216 people from all around the world having answered this survey.

As far as I know, it the biggest academic survey ever carried.

Thanks again from the bottom of my heart to all the people who have participated ,

Be in touch soon,

Jean-Philippe

So...what I have learned: half of Maiden fans are atheists...while 1/3rd have been with a prostitute.

ONHELL!!!!!!!!!!

Re: The Results (percentages only) of the Iron Maiden Survey are finally availab

Wow, a lot of those 4216 fans are Brazilian......and a fair few think about death or have tried to kill themselves...hmm. A bit worrying, lol. At least it seems most people appear to be central in their political affiliation.

Re: The Results (percentages only) of the Iron Maiden Survey are finally availab

I was wondering about that, myself.  However, I don't know if those numbers are any different, statistically, than the average population...

Re: The Results (percentages only) of the Iron Maiden Survey are finally availab

It always is a suprise to me that more people think angels sre there but the devil is not.

One could say I am stupid to be suprised every time again.

Some interesting notes from the survey...

Fear of the Dark is the most owned album after Powerslave and The Number of the Beast.  That surprises me.

Roughly 2/3 of Maiden fans surveyed believe in some sort of a god and most believe that Maiden's music is not anti-religious.

1/5 of Maiden fans have frequent sex with prostitutes (whoa!) and 78% have had a serious relationship for only sexual reasons.  Wow!  Hmmm... I wonder how many of those were male.  :ninja:

Almost a 1/3 of those surveyed have a spouse who is a Maiden fan.  Lucky bastards!  :P  ...And 7% have a mother who is a Maiden fan.  Family visits must be really fun.

Thanks for the update, IMthesis.

In my view it confirms that the album is underrated on this forum.

Wait... I actually told you that story? I can't remember...

I think it meant a relationship with a prostitute since the next question is if a long-term relationship with a prostitute is even possible....

That was a section I found interesting, the questions about prostitutes.

Yeah, i think the band should read this survey and come here more often and visit more cities... but i don't believe that the proportion between the amount of Maiden fans in Brazil is so big in comparison with the rest of the world as is shown in the survey.

2,51% consider "Iron maiden" a love song

It justs looks to me that the study was conducted from there......

Re: The Results (percentages only) of the Iron Maiden Survey are finally availab

The study was spread via internet to many sites, but it looks like Brazilians took up the call.

Re: The Results (percentages only) of the Iron Maiden Survey are finally availab

Or perhaps there was a link on a large Brazilian Maiden forum?

Ah well, I guess you can't really achieve scientific accuracy for the whole world with such small figures.  With no disrespect to IMthesis, of course, since it is the largest study of Maiden fans I have seen.  :)

Fear of the Dark is underrated on this forum, but still, I would not place it as the third most important album to have.  That is not to say Maiden fans are wrong, merely that I'm surprized.

Or we just don't like it :D

It is strange to see your post with a smiley.  You know the funny thing is, I was using a rest room at a pub tonight and one of the bathroom slogans of "You know you're a Canadian when..." said "you don't use a smiley after an email post".  Huh!  I though of you.  Then I come here and see you use a smiley.  That's a first.

Re: The Results (percentages only) of the Iron Maiden Survey are finally availab

I rarely use them.  Only when I feel it's necessary to denote a joke or extreme sarcasm.

Fear Of The Dark is certainly not underated on this forum, i think that it has it's right objective rank. Bruce sings with style that doesn't fit him very well and whole album has a lot of filler tracks. From what i've seen of fans that were introduced to Maiden before year 2000, FODT generaly ranks somewhere in the space between low-middle ranks and high-lower ranks, that's floating somewhere between low spots on the middle-ranked 5 albums, and high spots for the worst five albums.

Most of the older Maiden fans do consider the top 4 to be classic lineup records, or the classic lineup records minus one of them plus Number Of The Beast.

Hmm...that makes me wonder if i posted in general album rankings post...
