I sort of agree. One song would be ok (it's a book song like a lot of others by Maiden) but not an album.
A bit off topic, but I think a song based on 1984 (the novel) could have worked on AMOLAD; it would have suited both Maiden's overall literature theme and the dark war/politics nature of the album.

Maiden is the only band that has not disappointed me at one time or another. Let's keep it that way and stay away from all things of fantasy literature. A concept album would be nice though, I agree with No.5 on that.

I'm not a huge fan of Nightfall in Middle Earth, actually. It's got some great tracks: "Into the Storm", "Curse of Feanor", "Mirror Mirror", "Time Stands Still", but a fair amount of filler, bad production, and those damned "interludes" which ruin the flow like none other.
Like the earlier stuff better.

The interludes are great the first time around, you know, "the whole story" type of feel. But I agree, I set up my computer to only play the songs every time I pop in the CD. However, I must say it is arguably their best. A good blend of the old BG with what would become the "new" over-the-top-in-every-song BG. Though I do find myself turning more often to Follow the Blind and Batallions of Fear than say A Night at the Opera.
Perhaps I should elaborate as to why I don't want Maiden to write a song about Tolkien or any Fantasy stuff.
First off, yeah, Seventh Son is, in a way, a fantasy story. I say in a way, because it directly and explicitly draws from Christian imagery and existing mythology. Most fantasy worlds have their own mythology and imagery which is original in its way (although often closely inspired from existing models). So Seventh Son is set in this world and not a fictional one. I also never quite understood why everybody places it in a medieval setting (which, in effect, would be the classic fantasy setting)- nothing, absolutely nothing in the lyrics suggest that. You could argue that the whole prophecy/clairvoyant stuff is most at home in a medieval background, but lots of people still believe in this sort of thing today. The lyrics in any case are open to interpretation, not even the "disaster" that happens in the end is described in any way. So what makes it fantasy is the spiritual, supernatural element, but that in no way relates it to Tolkien or anything else that is passed on as 'classic' fantasy.
Then, why don't I want Maiden to write songs about Tolkien? First of all, a matter of personal preference. I hate Tolkien. I read The Lord Of The Rings and it bored me to death. I got absolutely nothing from it. I didn't like the characters and I didn't find the story involving. I appreciate Tolkien's work, and his invention of a complete new world with every little detail is impressive- but I don't see a point in starting to explore a fictional world if the real one is exciting enough.
Next, fantasy lyrics are such a cliché. It's something so incredibly many bands sing about. Perhaps not always Tolkien himself, but so many bands have lyrics about dragons, orcs, elves, fairies, trolls, dwarves and whatever else there is. It's not original. It really isn't, and it never has been. Led Zeppelin already had songs about Tolkien.
I'm not saying I don't listen to bands who sing about fantasy and Tolkien. I do, and I enjoy a great many of them, including Blind Guardian- but that doesn't mean there have to be more of them. It's really been done to death.
