How good is The Educated Fool on a scale of 1-10?

Also, this whole failed tour shows how difficult things were even for other former main metal acts in the United States at the time.

I mean, Dio was massive in the 80's, with Holy Diver. That had gone platinum by 1989. But in 1998 he couldn't tour the U.S on his own anymore.

The chorus ruins a pretty good song
It's a specific chorus for sure, it's far from the best (for the song too, but it's not a common idea and so it kind of stands) and surprisingly fits the song after that pre-chorus (with Bruce it would have been different and higher), but imo like on the whole album it's impactful in one way or another, and that's not (that) easy and it doesn't fully apply to the early 90's albums if we have to compare from the same decade. I love such feature in a chorus, maybe that's why I like the album so much besides the melodies/guitar work. Wouldn't you say that?

I'll go to bat and say this is one of the better songs on VXI and go even further by calling it one of Blaze's best vocal performances (in Maiden).
I completely agree. This was the first song from Virtual XI that I really liked (along with Futureal). The vocals are great, the lyrics are inspiring, and I especially like the instrumental + solo section. It hypes me up. I can hear those powerful bass chords from Steve.

I'm a fan of this era but...

Does this song have the flattest chorus of their career?

Love the verses and pre chorus though

Edit- October

Listening through headphones I love the chorus and the double tracked vocals now

This song has really grown on me. My usual gripe with the album remains, though, and touches this song as well: I wish there was a bit more dynamic punch in the mix, it would make moments like the transition from the lighter verses to the heavier ones even darker... you know...

Never felt this way before
Seems that somebody's just opened the door
To the book of life or is it
death
Is there ever anyway out?

The point is, I think the guitars and vocal production could really do with some extra grit here and there, especially in this one and e.g. Lightning Strikes Twice, where the riffs would really benefit from a slightly crunchier vibe. The sound itself is nice and clear, though,.

But yeah, The Educated Fool is a great song and Blaze really shines here, particularly in the verses. Beautiful melodies through the song. The chorus/post-chorus thingy are fine, but not really the highlight of the song for me.

Janick's solo is also fantastic! Ah.
