My thoughts exactly. Cool band, but weird, distracted performers.

Went to see U.D.O. (with support Sister Sin and Garagedays) this weekend. Saw Accept last October so I was excited to see how U.D.O. compared to the band he is almost synonymous with.

It turns out to not even be a competition. Accept is the better band and live act in every possible way. U.D.O.'s guitarplayers may be far more proficient, but the bass overpowered exactly everything so I heard basically nothing of the guitars from the front. Udo Dirkschneider is still an inconic voice and frontman, but the band as a whole suffered from feeling more like a touring band put together in haste - with a positive surprise in his 21 year old son Sven on the drums, who I can't fault.

Add to that a crowd mostly consisting of older, drunk people. Not my kind of gig in the slightest.

Sorry you didn't enjoy the show as much as you thought. I saw him live 3 years ago and loved the show. Really like his solo material also. I've seen accept way more times so I'd like to see U.D.O again
 
Been a great month. The Zebra show was phenomenal! Also the Testament/Exodus shows were amazing too. Adrenaline Mob show was another highlight of the month. Y&T put on another kickass performance as always. And capping this great month off with the M3fest. The only shows in May that are worth mentioning here is the Cryptopsy show mid month, the big Sepultura/Destruction tour and a D.R.I show. Also looking forward to the Boston show first weekend in June. Any Boston fans here? I can't get enough of that band. IT's such great high energy rock!
 
WMGK just announced they are doing something called "MGK's Big Gig" on Labor Day weekend, Saturday Sept 5th, with Steve Miller & The Doobie Bros, that could possibly be what they are doing instead of Let Freedom Rock this year but I'm not sure.. either way, that's not a bad combo, I'd go to that

Also, The Winery Dogs announced their fall tour, they're at the Keswick Oct 8th, wohoo!!!
 
Kamelot was incredible last night! Tommy was on point with the vocals and led the band like a seasoned pro. He is able to balance the dark and mysterious singer image that Khan was so great at projecting and actually looking like he is having fun with the crowd. Dare I say, he's a much better frontman than Khan.

I was right on the railing in front of Sean, but all of the guys kept switching spots and leaning out into the crowd, so I got a few nice closeup moments of Thomas soloing. I was shocked at how many times Tommy and Thomas would literally take cameras and cameraphones out of people's hands while they were filming and then film half of a song onstage as a selfie. It must have happened 3-4 times. Should make for some very interesting YouTube videos.
 
I got the Motörhead ticket :nana: Only Judas Priest/Helloween ticket left and then I'm all set when it comes to concerts I wanna see this year (although I'm still debating on that Evening with Machine Head concert) :D

Queensryche 10/25/15 - If its 21 and older I can't go, I'm worried that it is because it's at a casino. Tickets haven't gone on sale yet but I'm am definitely going.

They're great. I saw them when I was just starting to get into them and it really boosted my interest in the band. Plus their newer material (which is probably what you'll be hearing) is fantastic in concert. Those songs were meant for the live audience and they really come to life. Progressive metal bands tend to be a bit dull live, not really the same energy as your typical metal concert, but Symphony X definitely don't fall into that category.
 
Yeah Symphony X is definitely worth checking out. I may hit a couple of stops on that tour. I like Overkill too. Def Leppard/Styx/Tesla I'm really looking forward to this summer. Alice in Chains as well. They are awesome live. Also Queensryche you can't go wrong. They are always killer. I"ve seen younger people go to casino shows. But I would check with the venue just to make sure.

anyhoo, another great MMRBQ yesterday! Here's my band-by-band review, from first to last:

THE PRETTY RECKLESS: Good, I like their sound, good heavy melodic rock

HALESTORM: Didn't really watch, was in the VIP room when they were on, but I could see them on the screen in there, they sounded good, same setlist as usual, but still a good one

SEETHER: Really good, forgot how good they are live, hadn't seen them since MMRBQ 2011.. They still didnt play their Careless Whisper cover though:facepalm:

BREAKING BENJAMIN: Really good, I enjoyed them a lot!

STP: Good once they started.. they were supposed to start around 8 but due to the t-storm moving through they delayed their start time till about 8:50.. but, it was just as well, they wanted the lawn people to be safe, and of course it's not good to use electric instruments when there's lightning.. Every time there was a flash of lightning or clap of thunder everyone chanted "STP! STP!"

SLASH AND MYLES KENNEDY: Excellent, best performance of the night, or ehr, day I guess...

And, regarding the first 2, the first one was the local opener Cold Roses, who were just ending as I got in so I didn't really hear them.. and, the second one, Rival Sons, I didn't really hear either, just as I went in to sit down they were ending their set, apparently they cut it short because the singer was having vocal problems

Overall an all-around awesome day of music and fun:nana:
 
So yesterday at the Blind Guardian concert I tried to record a video of a song even though I haven't done it in years (and generally oppose it when people do it too much), just to see how my new phone's camera performs... In the end I couldn't figure out how to switch between photo and video mode so I gave up. I'll take it as a sign that I shouldn't do it in the future :p

Thanks for posting that. I think I"m gonna have to skip that tour. The starland show is the same night as Van Halen at the PNC. There's an awful lot of metal core and death core on that bill. I'd like to see Arch enemy again though. The girl is just as good as the other girl. On a side note, just got my whitesnake ticket for Rhode Island on July 24th! Can't wait for that. WIth the purple album doing the old deep purple stuff that's gonna be great. And when you buy your ticket they give you the option to buy the album as an mp3 download from ticketmaster for an extra $10. Had to pick that up. SO that'll be a full weekend with that show, then Mayhemfest the next day in Mass. Then I come back home on the 26th and Deep Purple is in Long island. Yeeeeaaaaaah
 
ah ok... I'll probably be able to go, tickets go on sale next Friday.. it starts at 3 in the afternoon so I won't be able to see a good majority of it since I'll be at work, but whatever, AE are who I'm there for so if I just see them, Born of Osiris, and maybe 2 others, that's fine with me.. I guess I should listen to some Veil of Maya.. I like The Acacia Strain, but I dunno if I'll get there in time to see them
