The Concert Thread

Today is the 10th anniversary of the last time Rush played here in Houston.
Was on the R40 tour and that 2nd set was unreal!

Such a shame they did not come to Europe on their final tour. :(

Last concert was Imagine Dragons in Milan. Support act was Declan McKenna, an English singer-songwriter with a great band and some nice tunes (Brazil and British Bombs stood out). They also played a very good cover of David Bowie's Heroes.

I knew Imagine Dragons were big, but was not expecting them to be that big (more than 70000 people in attendance according to Live Nation)!!! Their show was the first of the European leg of the Loom tour and they played a longer (and different) setlist to what they had been playing on the tour. All the hits were there - Thunder, Walking the Wire, Radioactive, Demons (fantastic), Believer - and they also did a very nice acoustic interval in the intimate setting of a small platform away from the stage. More than 2 hours of music and a great audiovisual show, making excellent use of the giant screens.

The setlist, for those interested, can be found at:

I would not mind seeing them live again!

I've seen Imagine Dragons twice with my younger cousin, who's a big fan. It's not really my type of music, but they have some catchy songs, and they certainly put on a fun, engaging show.

Attended the Håkan Hellström concert on the 7th of June at Ullevi, Gothenburg. New attendance record at 73,781 at the stadium.

What did I watch? An insanely well-directed musical set to some kind of weird indie-pop? It wasn't just a concert - but it was glorious.

This guy sells out Ullevi 3 times this and next weekend, blocking Maiden from playing there next week, and I understand why.

Today is 15th anniversary of Maiden playing near Houston on leg 1 of TFF tour.
It was a best of 21st century set. Was also the first time they played anything from AMOLAD near Houston (Dance of Death title track also made its' Houston debut)!

Dream Theater opened which was the 1st time I FINALLY saw them live!
They were promoting BCASL on their last tour with Portnoy for about 15 years!

Off to see Unleash the Archers tonight, this time at a much smaller venue. It's my second show of the year - after missing out on them playing pre and post covid they suddenly play headline UK shows twice in one year

I love small venues these days, metal bands sound enormous. This is the place I saw British Lion for the first time and it did them a lot of favours.

Unusually there's no age restriction on this show, so I know quite a lot of people are bringing kids. I have mixed feelings about that but at least I'll be able to see over their heads

Well I enjoyed that a lot more than the London show earlier in the year. Blood Empress was extremely good live and I got the impression the band were a lot more into the Phantoma songs than the older stuff. The bass player is an absolute joy to watch live!

Not at all. There was one young boy at the barrier for the support band (it was his birthday and he got picks and fist bumps from the band, plus a teen who got a UTA setlist, but otherwise it was a largely beardy crowd with your average middle aged guys everywhere. Typical metal audience

Saw Goo Goo Dolls for the 1st time last night and they were AMAZING!
Lead singer/guitarist sounded perfect!
The bassist sang 3 songs (Life's a Message, Bringing On the Light, and January Friend)

Dashboard Confessional opened.
I wasn't familiar with them but the audience was! The singer can hold a note a long time!
