The best five short rockers Maiden have done since 1990?

1. The Wicker Man - the song that announced Maiden was back, it has lost none of its punch over the past 25 years. Killer track.
2. Stratego - absolutely flies along, earns every second and leaves you wanting more.
3. Rainmaker - how was this not the lead single/first song on DoD? You could just leave Wildest Dreams on the cutting room floor and lead off with this little beauty.
4. Lord of the Flies - bitching song, pretty unique sonically in the Maiden catalogue and with some of Blaze's better work on it.
5. The Alchemist - I just really like the chorus and storytelling feel of this one.

Mmmm surprisingly easy:
  • Montségur
  • Be Quick Or Be Dead
  • Man On The Edge
  • Judgement Day
  • Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter
Honorable mentions to Tailgunner, The Wicker Man, Futureal, Stratego and The Final Frontier. If it was 10, I think these would my remaining picks

Other 3 good short rockers I didn't mention.

They should bring at least one of those two (Futureal and man on the edge) back for next tour but I´m afraid that's only wishful thinking...
I was thinking on the future past tour when nick was still in the band that Futureal would have been piss easy for him if he played it like the studio version but man on the edge is damn near a thrash beat and would have been maybe impossible for that version of Nicko

There are songs which are below 5 minutes in duration but I won't consider them "rockers" like Lightning Strikes Twice. Again, some songs cross 5 minutes but are definitely "rockers" like Montsegur, The Pilgrim and El Dorado.

My top 5:

1. Rainmaker
2. Speed Of Light
3. The Wicker Man
4. Different World
5. Judas Be My Guide

Hon'ble mentions: Be Quick Or Be Dead, From Here To Eternity, Chains Of Misery and Man On The Edge.

Left disregarded: Days of Future Past. A monster of a song, and I find it hard to classify it as a "short rocker" just because of its duration. It's more of a short epic, and a fantastic one at that.

Interesting way of looking at it, how so? I'd say it fits the "short rocker" description better than most other post-reunion short rockers, and has a very typical structure for a shorter song, especially compared to some other short rockers which have one verse then go off on a bit of a instrumental tangent.

It's really hard for me to describe. Maybe it's because it slows down (slightly) in the chorus, but then picks up again, and that it doesn't have an ordinary "rocker" ending. And the fact that the instrumental section doesn't content itself with an ordinary solo? But then you could argue the instrumental section is similar in structure to Two Minutes to Midnight, which I guess is the definition of a Maiden rocker, and now my brain hurts and I don't really know what I'm saying anymore.

Be Quick or Be Dead
Futureal
Man On The Edge
The Wicker Man
Lord of the Flies

Rainmaker and Different World have some killer riffs, but are heavily damaged by boring or even awful choruses.
Wildest Dreams and Speed of Light are bad throughout.
Stratego is a good song, but did not make the list, as the others I mentioned are better.
I do not consider Judes Be My Guide a song of the same style, it is rather midtempo. However, it could make the list in terms of quality.
