Yeah, I found that weird too. He's at least 45.

I found a FB post of Mike Orlando's girlfriend, apparently him and Russell are just "banged up, but ok".

Russell is fine and apparently helped save a couple people from the wreckage before they sustained further injury. From his FB page:

Yesterday I was involved in an accident that took the life of my dear friend and band mate David Z Rock and left 3 of our crew in critical condition. I'm overwhelmed with sorrow. I am so grateful for the out pouring of love we have received from around the world. Please continue to pray for David's family during this difficult time. And those in critical condition. I want to personally thank Marine Lance Cpl. Patrick Dumon for his bravery in assisting me pull our Driver Jason from the wreckage and for attending to his wounds. And for helping me to secure and attend to Jane once I was able to get her free from the fire. Without his selfless act of courage I would not have been able to get them clear of the RV before it was engulfed in flames. On behalf of my band and crew I thank you.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Maybe this prompts them to actually start playing more early stuff live.

That would be fantastic. The 'Underworld' tour was the entire album plus a few token old songs in the encore. Sad!

Lepond also did an interview recently that said SX will start writing again this year.
That would fit their schedule:

The Odyssey 2002
Paradise Lost 2007
Iconoclast 2011
Underworld 2015
new album 2019?

Then they could come back to the UK with a proper setlist.

They could always re-record their early albums with Russell Allen's "tough guy" vocals.

I'd love to hear Winter's Dream and Edge of Forever with Dehumanized vocals!

Seriously though, about half of the tracks on their debut album should be completely re-recorded with Russell because they'd sound amazing.

The first album really is diabolical. I genuinely think that all of Symphony X's albums up to and including 'Iconoclast' are great albums and Symphony X got better with each album. The first album is terrible though and I often forget about it. 'Underworld' is not a bad album it's just OK and not particularly interesting.

Nice. I liked Underworld a lot.

The thing is I've always considered SX to be more of a heavy metal band than anything progressive. They introduced a lot of progressive elements with first couple of albums but have been exploiting them since in a form of their signature style. Just like Maiden.

A very in-depth interview, though no Symphony X news, with Russell after the TSO tour last month: https://squintyt4e.livejournal.com/52490.html

It's a really great read. He talks about the PTSD of dealing with touring again after the Adrenaline Mob crash last summer. Also, apparently there were a few shows at the very end of the tour where one of the female singers became ill and Russell had to fill in on one of her songs:

That may be the single purest, most perfect Russell Allen performance I've ever seen. He was feeling every second of that song. Good God.

The show I saw in Tampa had a woman singing that one. No idea who though! I've only ever seen two singers, Charlotte Wessels and Simone Simons, feel a song that much before. I was standing close enough to see their tears. It was slightly odd when they came back onstage once the song finished and were all cheerful again, like "Hey, you guys are great. ARE YOU HAVING A GOOD TIME TONIGHT?" I've also seen Stu Block fight through the tears during 'Watching Over Me' the day after his former bandmate died of cancer. It was quite tough to watch.

I think Russel did have a few powerful performances on 'Paradise Lost' and 'Iconoclast', such as 'Revelation' and 'When All Is Lost'. But I do agree though, more of that on the next album please!
