Steve Harris

Well, I don't know anybody who wants to go with me, and I definetely don't know anybody in London. The decisive factors to decide to go to the London gig are Harry himself, of course, the great memories of the BL gigs I've previously attended, and the very fact that there are direct low cost flights between my home town and Gatwick. Do I feel confortable with the idea of going alone to this gig ? Certainly not. But I remember going to a Maiden gig near Marseille, at a motorbike race, back in 1991, and I felt way more unconfortable.
That said, and it was the reason behind my question, if Maturin is planning to go to the London gig, we could meet and go together.

Fri 31 July Cardiff Uni
Perhaps not exactly the same building, but Maiden played Cardiff University:
The Judas Priest tour: 7 March 1980, also an opening gig, also a Friday.

Interesting : Steve is going backwards in some respect, with those very those very little venues and this extensive british tour.

I get the impression this tour has been organised at very short notice. In particular, playing at a student union building in August, when all the students are away, is unusual. Okay, granted, it was an older crowd there last time, but indoor gigs 'season' is mostly pre-May or September onwards. It's as if they've gone with whatever venue they can get at short notice. The tickets I got are print-at-home-only too, something I find unusual with that particular seller. It's like a hurriedly-organised, low budget tour. Harry's now ruled out a short run of Maiden shows and wants to fit something in before Album #16 madness hits?

I think you are right. The Maiden album plans have probably been discussed in the last few months behind closed doors. And the result of those have apparently allowed Steve to spend some time doing other things - coupled with the other members of British Lion also wanting to "take advantage" of Steve finally being available.

I was sure he was going to tour this year after they anounced that Maiden would not tour until 2016, and what you say makes sense. I think that he wants to play gigs each year, that he's had a lot of fun doing clubs again, and that he wants to keep this BL thing alive, which is probably uneasy, considering some of the guys have daily jobs to make a living. This kind of tour does not need much preparation, considering that he can work with a very good professional team, does it ?

Plus they apparently had time to write new songs, as Steve said some are going to be played (which is part of the exitement for me).

Don't know. But remember that Bruce's condition was announced back in February...the band and management may even have known about this for much longer, perhaps since late 2014....So yeah...Steve and British Lion has had plenty of preparation opportunities :)

And I'm glad he did not use it to sit on his bottom (funilly enough, when I first read about these remasterings of the whole catalogue, I thought that he should hzve used his time off better . Shame on the unfaithful).

No Reading show. What a fucking disgrace! It would be cool that he's playing in Aberdeen, but it's no longer relevant to me. I guess I could go to the Oxford show though.

I wish he'd tour North America. I know the album didn't sell a lot of copies here, but shows would sell quite well just because of his name. I bet he could easily sell out 2,000-3,000 capacity venues.

Sorry, but no way. Iron Maiden sold 56 000 tickets to the Stockholm show in 2013 in about one hour. Earlier that year, there were just about a few hundred people there to see Steve Harris, and most had been invited on the guestlist according to one source (a music magazine supposedly invited all their subscribers). Individual members of Iron Maiden are virtually unknown/irrelevant outside of the main band.

Unless something changes dramatically with a second album, I hardly believe there's interest from either end for them to tour Scandinavia again. Don't get me started on the US. It costs a fortune to tour there, and you'd have to have rock-solid proof of people showing up in masses for it to happen.

I'm quite sure that BL's recent european and forthcoming british tours actually cost money to Steve. The 2013 crowds were not huge, but the 2014' were even smaller. In Paris last year, I've met two guys who have waited from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. just to get their stuff signed, but didn't bother to attend the gig, while it was far from sold out and the ticket price was ridiculously low. Very few people really appreciated the record and most of them are in Europe and maybe Japan.

Last year, Leslie, one the guitar player, told me that they were planning to record an album in 2016, when Maiden schedule would let some time off to Harris. But it was before that cancer thing. They already had four unrealeased songs back in 2013, and they apparently have new stuff, so who knows. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that some had already been recorded, because they can use Harry's studio in Portugal.

In my case, if the album was better maybe I would've tried to see him live abroad. In comparison, I'd see both him and Bruce if they played here, but I'd only bother to go abroad for Bruce.

Makes sense, but BL are way better live than on record. Everybody would confirm that, wether they liked the album or not.
The album is indeed just okay, but live was awesome. BL are definitely worth seeing live for those who haven't seen them. I can't see me taking in a show this time, but I would have if he was playing Glasgow (or if I still lived in Aberdeen).
