Songs you love that aren't too popular (one per album).

Transylvania - An awesome instrumental song. Nice changes throughout, really displays Steve Harris' genius and shows why the band was unique from the rest of the NWOBHM pack.

Murders In The Rue Morgue - Contrary to popular opinion, I believe "Purgatory" is rather among the popular tracks from the record hence I'm going for this song. The intro is just spectacular and the band's punk energy with Paul's rapid fire delivery makes it more awesome!

Total Eclipse - The guys were right when they said they should have included it in the album. Tight rhythm with an infectious energy throughout.

Sun And Steel - Just love the galloping drive in the song. One of the best, if not the best Iron Maiden chorus!

Flash Of The Blade - One of my top 10 songs by the band. The dual harmony is amazing. Bruce sounds triumphant as ever.

Deja Vu - Another of my top 10 songs. Absolutely love the breathtaking intro, followed by the solid main riff, maintaing the synth guitar magic from 'Somewhere In Time'.

The Prophecy - The intro is just super melodious. I really like the contrasting harsh and melodic vocals. The outro part with acoustic guitars is memorable.

Fates Warning - Nice intro. Sounds like something Metallica would have written for '... And Justice For All'. The lead harmonies are really good throughout. A definite highlight from the album.

Chains Of Misery - I wanted to add "Childhood's End" as well but since it has already garnered several praises here so I'm going with this song. "Chains Of Misery" nails the AC/DC influenced rock n' roll style, the band was going for the album along with "From Here To Eternity". Nice fun song.

The Aftermath - One of my favourites from 'The X Factor' and in my opinion, this song really sounds good in the slow doomy playing as common throughout the record. Really like the main riff and the breakdown section in the middle.

Lightning Strikes Twice - Since "Don't Look To The Eyes Of A Stranger" already got mentioned a few times, I choose this song. I look upon it as Blaze's version of "Fear Of The Dark". The melancholic intro creates a suspenseful vibe which is later contrasted by a hard rocking riff. Dave's solo is awesome.

The Thin Line Between Love And Hate - A great ending to Brave New World. The song is really heavy with nice dynamics throughout the run time. I wonder why the band haven't performed it live specially during Rock In Rio '01. Among my favourite songs written by Dave.

Age Of Innocence - Most underrated song from the band's discography. The lyrics are often considered a let down but I like the way they are delivered, specially during the chorus. The main riff is just solid.

The Pilgrim - The hip hop influenced drum intro followed by solid harmonies. This song rules! The solo section has an oriental flavour in it, making it one of the band's most unique numbers.

Isle Of Avalon - One of my favourites from The Final Frontier. The song, through being lengthy, properly utilizes its runtime with changing dynamics. There's even 'Mission Impossible' theme inspired section in the middle.

When The River Runs Deep - Great rocking tune. I really like the balance it maintains between heaviness and melody.

Darkest Hour - I consider it the ballad from Senjutsu. The songwriting is really dark as the title suggests. They really nailed the clean tuned guitar parts on this one and as usual the harmonies are too good. I wonder why they haven't performed it live yet.

Although I can 100% spot the AC/DC influences on From Here To Eternity, I kinda have a different feel when it comes to Chains Of Misery. I think it moves more along in the line of early 80's Dio. And truth be told IMO it's an ok tune, unlike FHTE and other subpar material from the same album. Yet those back vocals on the chorus are atrocious IMO. I'd like to listen to it without them. As it is I consider it to be merely decent.

22 Acacia Avenue (I discovered Maiden BEFORE I could understand English ;) )

I see a lot of people say that they have a negative opinion of this song because of the lyrics, but I'm genuinely curious as to why. To me there's nothing in them that's really shaming Charlotte for being a sex worker, nor is it glorifying or condoning it. Most of the song is just stating facts. Charlotte is a prostitute, she works out of 22 Acacia Avenue, you wanna go get your rocks off with her, it'll cost you £15 (far more reasonable than the £50 I first thought Bruce was singing ;)). You wanna "beat her, mistreat her/abuse her, misuse her"? Go for it, it's in her job description, it's what you're paying her for.

It also does express concern at her life choices; the risks of getting disease (which seems pretty surprising for a song written in the very early days of AIDs awareness), being eyed up by lecherous blokes on the street, how she'll reach the (still fairly young) age of 40 and look back on her life with regret, and losing those family and friends who care about her, reaching a point where the narrator comes to take her away from it all.
