Simon Dawson is the new drummer

It's not like Maiden have the most explosive personalities on stage, though. That's why Eddie exists: you are kinda supposed to look at him. Bruce is the only one that has something of a personality, but he kinda has to given that he's the frontman.
I don’t agree at all. They all have big personalities, maybe except Adrian.

Steve is a massive personality on stage, Dave also has insane amount charisma as a performer, and Janick is still explosive as hell.

I don't think I really agree with this. Steve has a ton of stage presence and keeps eye contact with the audience most of the time. Janick is out there performing the entire set as well. Adrian is the most reserved, while Dave is just having a jolly good time, most of the time.

Compare them to, say Blind Guardian for example. I adore that band, but their stage presence is severly lacking and their shows can be quite boring. Hansi is a good dude, but he never felt like a metal frontman; he has the energy of a high school teacher. Andre is mostly locked to his wah pedal and stares at his guitar. The only one who bring some energy into their shows is Marcus, the rhythm guitarist. Maiden is on another level compared to many other bands out there.

Maiden are one of the few bands I can think of where every member has a distinct stage persona. There are plenty of examples of bands that get eaten up by an overbearing frontman, but that's exactly what doesn't happen with Maiden.

There's videos all over this thread showing him playing bigger kits. He plays a small kit with BL because he only needs to play basic rock.

I can guarantee he won't be using a micro drum set on a Maiden stage. In fact I'll put money on it being built by the British Drum Co.
Not to mention that they play tiny venues with small stages and not a lot of gear in general, even Steve's using his custom modeling unit instead of a mini-version of his Maiden gear. Probably does at least some of his own roadie work too and let me tell you, nothing's more fun than lugging eleventeen pieces of kit and drums around small backrooms.

I agree about blind guardian, but disagree about andre. Last time i saw them he seemed to have a permanent grin on his face just staring into the audience while playing, kind of looked high

Interestingly, Bruce said at the concert that Nicko wasn't leaving the band, but he was giving up playing live. So all in all - I don't know if it's worth creating a storm in a teacup because people get old and are replaced by others. Mankind has been doing this for centuries.

Yeah, our favorite band just had lost it's one member (albeit in live environment) Pfft, no big deal. Let's move on swiftly and without any moaning and groaning, just like robots.

There's difference between being sad because something in band that we love has changed and questioning band members sanity, professionalism of people that we don't know in context of the band etc. Some people here moan and groan more than my teenage son during house chores.

I guess you're right.
Last year, you wrote that basically, the songs didn't suffer from Nicko's disminished technical abilities. And now ypu complain because they chose a less technical drummer. Him and Steve ate really really tight live. That's the point that matters.
I didn't say all the songs and I probably added ''that much''. I don't know if Simon is technical enough. I get why Steve chose him, but is he the right choice for the band? As I said before, there is no right choice and Simon seems to be a different drummer from Nicko who can bring energy to the band, but let's see because he's their age. His style can work in any band I guess, but let's hear how the songs will feel and sound. For example, I don't need a thrash-y version of Trooper (the groove is everything) and I don't think Adrian would want such fast playing. The band is in great form.

Wow, that's far from the truth.

I agree about difference but, imo, there was no over the top reactions so far. In some cases loss and sadness converted into anger and questioning of the decision making but that is understandable. Even Steve Lazarus was shocked and stunned  People will always be like that. And always was. Such forums also acts like some frustration channeling systems, there's no denying to that. As long as no one's crossing the line, let us all moan and groan. Band's decisions will always be under the magnifying glass of the fans.

...

That's normal. You think the sales for the 2026 leg will be down now that the band will be without Nicko?

...

I asked my friends. They'll keep the tickets. They are disappointed but think it will still be a fun evening with what is announced as the biggest Maiden show ever. I believe most people will think that way.

To people who are upset about Simon Dawson being chosen as the new drummer, uuuuhh why? Why wouldn't Steve want a drummer he already knows and has played with for years? What would be the benefit of hiring someone different?
Steve Lazarus would've posted a pic of him sharing a pint with Steve Harris instead of what he's doing right now.

I mean, that's still not a sign of great stage presence. I never found him captivating to watch, unlike Steve or Janick for example.
