Brazilian Metal Titans Sepultura Erupts With Roorback, Released On
August 26th Through SPV

Few bands have made as notable an impression as Sepultura. Blasting out of Brazil with 1985's Bestial Devastation EP, Sepultura quickly made quite a mark on the world of heavy metal. Sepultura are eagerly poised to unleash their latest testament to musical brutality: Roorback. This monster will hit store shelves August 26th, 2003, and not a moment too soon. Sepultura combines that old-school metal style and battle-hardened musical experience with up-to-date vision and modern sensibilities to create an explosive album that is sure to get some attention amid today's otherwise stagnating musical soundscape.

The band quickly climbed the ladder of hard and heavy music, gaining huge success in the last decade with albums like Beneath the Remains (1989), Arise (1991), and of course, Chaos A.D. (1993) and Roots (1996). Then, Sepultura made a major change in the vocal department, as original vocalist Max Cavalera departed to form Soulfly. Enter Derrick Green. The hulking frontman (both physically and vocally) from Ohio brought a new level of ferocity to Sepultura's already intimidating live shows, and the two ensuing albums, Against (1998)
and Nation (2001) added an updated, fiery sound to Sepultura's already
impressive repertoire.

The 14 tracks on Roorback illustrate the necessary ingredients to a successful venture into today's heavy music world. Featuring cover art designed by acclaimed artist Derek Hess, who has worked with such notable acts as Limp Bizkit, Tommy Lee's Methods of Mayhem, Boy Sets Fire, Converge, Grade, and Snapcase, Roorback demands attention. From the aggressive vocals and thrash-based riffing on "Mind War" to the impressive rendition of U2's "Bullet the Blue Sky", Sepultura are set to reaffirm their position of power on the heavy metal food-chain.

Roorback draws its title from a word meaning "A defamatory falsehood published for political effect, AKA black propaganda". Indeed, Sepultura have always spoken out against prejudice and the abuse of political power, and the lyrics heard on Roorback indicate that they are as furious as ever about the state of the world today. They speak out against war on "Come Back Alive" saying, "Sent in the middle of a war you have to fight / wondering how the f*** you ever landed over
here". The misuse of power is denounced in "Urge": "Revolting manner of handling power / perpetrating lies and misery / Fifty years of progress in five / people living only to survive." These issues and many others are addressed in the lyrical content of Roorback, all backed by the impressive musicianship of longtime members Andreas Kisser (guitars), Igor Cavalera (drums), and Paolo Pinto Jr. (Bass).

Two versions of Roorback will hit the stands; the standard jewel-cased edition will feature the bonus track "Bullet The Blue Sky" as well as an enhanced video track for the same cut, while a limited edition 2-CD digipack will feature the aforementioned bonuses and the previously unreleased Revolusongs EP that features cover versions of songs originally recorded by Jane's Addiction, Public Enemy, Massive Attack, Devo, Exodus, and Hellhammer.

In other Sepultura news, the band collaborated with former Faith No More/Mr. Bungle vocalist Mike Patton on the track "The Waste", which is featured on the upcoming Freddy Vs. Jason movie soundtrack.

Heavy music has reached a point where both a breath of fresh air, and a reminder of what once was good in the world of metal are dearly needed. Sepultura serves both purposes with Roorback. Expect to be blown away by their upcoming North American tour, planned for October 2003. SPV Records is proud to present Roorback.
