Well, TSO is more of a side project, than a full overhaul of Savatage. Remember TSO's first album was in '96 and Magellan was a '98 release... Their last Savatage release was in... 03 I believe. And I repeat, the type of music had a lot to due with the success of TSO, not just the name.

I was spinning Edge of Thorns, and something familiar caught my ear...

Compare the opening 45 seconds of these songs.

Those are too similar. I'll bet they were jamming the Frampton (every band has its guilty pleasure cover songs) and they snagged that verse for their own thing. Good artists copy, great artists steal?
