RUN FOR YOUR LIVES WORLD TOUR (2025/2026)

In most recent tours, Maiden have played 2 nights at the O2 arena in London (fantastic venue, by the way). I always try and get standing tickets for one night and seats for the other, so I can enjoy the show in different ways. I do not go mental if I am standing though. At the end of the day I am there to enjoy the music.
I like standing at club gigs for all the reasons I like sitting down at arena gigs

Personally, I don't need the smartphone. I keep the nice fan tickets as souvenirs. I bought my brother, who was in hospital at the time of the last concert, a T-shirt at the merch stand. That made him happier than a video, of which there were many on YouTube.
That being said, I don't think it's clever of Bruce to berate people who text or aren't particularly active. That can easily become very embarrassing for him, depending on the backstory of those fans.

Just to elaborate this with a personal story.

As I have said before, I have a daughter. She is not so little anymore. She turned 3 and a half yesterday. A week or so after she came home from hospital (she was premature and had to stay in SCBU), I had music on in the background when I was sitting on the chair with her. In fact it was Senjutsu, as the album was still quite fresh. I wasn’t blaring it out loud, but she was very intrigued by it. I have a hilarious video of her looking confused by the song Hell on Earth. As a music teacher, I was super proud that my tiny daughter was paying attention to my favourite band that I owe a lot to. I even have videos of her dancing to Hell on Earth as she has grown up. Ok, it might not be the most kiddy friendly song title, but the musical themes are stunning. She can even spot a Maiden song now!

Fast forward to the Future Past Tour, I filmed part of Hell on Earth so that I could show her that daddy went to see the people who wrote it. She was transfixed by the video.

Now I understand that there are people who film everything or stick the phone in peoples’ faces. However, my phone allowed me to film a quick moment of a song that means a lot to me and I shared it in a lovely moment with my daughter.

Filming something with your phone does not mean you are addicted to it. Sometimes you don’t know why people are filming something. It might be to send to their parent who is ill on the hospital. It might be as a way of remembering an incredible night or an absent friend. Let’s be more patient and kind. I think that is what I would expect from the Maiden fan base.
I was you 12 years ago, flipping through Ross Halfins photo book with my daughter in my lap and watching mummy Eddie on youtube. Didn't think this day would come, but we will be attending her (now 15) first Maiden gig together in june and we are both stoked! It's truly a life goal for me as a parent.

Aha, now that they have rehearsed, they rather not have all the mistakes recorded and announce this thing with the phones. :devil2:

No, I personally would like a concert without phones. I don't really understand the arguments of my friends that it is not possible because I was at concerts with the same friends in the 80s and I remember that it was possible.
If there were smartphones in the 80s they would have been used.

I don't get the whole smart phone debate in 2025. The gigs take place in 2025, not the 80s. I personally never record at gigs (Maybe a photo or two or maybe half a song), but it doesn't annoy me when other people do record. We have to accept that we're living in this century.
I watch films in cinemas and plays at theatres in 2025, and I don't want twats waving their fucking phones about there either.

"...Some cunt's recording this".

That's different though. In cinemas, everything is annoying, whispers, laughs, light, noises, everything. In gigs you're supposed to sing, headbang, jump around. So what is more annoying to you? A twat waving a phone or a twat stomping your feet while jumping at a gig? People can get annoying in many ways.

Phone waving twat for sure!

I'd rather have someone quietly recording the gig on a phone than a drunkard invading my personal space.

I think it's a matter of perspective. Putting out a cigarette on your elbow can definitely ruin the evening. It happened to me more than once when I was a teenager at punk concerts. On the other hand, I don't know - the sea of illuminated screens sometimes really knocks me out of immersion at concerts, but in my endless optimism boosted by beer I imagine that these are the current generation's lighters 2.0 at concerts.

So true and without the risk of getting burnt.

I find walls of footage seekers standing still does spoil the atmosphere, but also all of the above, plus people in front of me turned around chatting ignoring the band for most of the night, and the endless stream of people going from the front to the bar then back to the front, then back out to the toilets, repeat several times.

I was thinking it was a weird thing to do an 'ask' rather than a full on ban, but maybe they've made the right move. Asking audiences to make it a party not a selfie opportunity, throw in a few Bruce rants for good measure, rather than have people getting pissed off and doing their best to argue with venue staff about it.

And yeah, I've had cigarette burns on my arms in recent years too

The worst of it all is the glare of those screens on the bald heads of ageing Maiden fans. My eyes!
