RUN FOR YOUR LIVES 2025 Tour Thread *SPOILERS INSIDE*

I love Nicko as much as the next guy, but comparing the common songs from the current tour played by Simon with Nicko's performances last year shows that, not only was a change necessary, Simon is good enough to help carry Maiden over the finish line, so to speak.
I agree it needed to happen im just relaying what other drummers think about him, and comments from other fans i heard at the gig

There have been plenty of differing opinions. There are other folks, including drummers, who liked what they've seen so far.

From the videos I've watched so far, some of the mistakes weren't even Simon's fault. I don't remember the song, but Steve fucked up, the guitars were doing their own thing and Simon was trying to salvage it. Without paying attention you might think Simon was the one at fault, when he was the one trying to get everyone back together.

It's less than a couple of weeks left for me until I can finally see them live. Really curious how it'll be in real life, instead of youtube videos.

I can't help but think some fans are/were predisposed to not liking Simon because "he's not Nicko."
Pretty much this. I wasn't around for the 80s, but I've read comments recently from people who were already fans back then and they were talking about fans who hated Nicko for not being Clive. People who to this day believe Maiden fucked up by replacing Paul with Bruce. Stuff like that.

The only unanimous vote seems to be Blaze getting sacked for the reunion, poor guy lol

I like it,but murders dont start like that and he sounds more fat and strong than nicko. For the rest its ok to me.

Simon looks like he's won the lottery and I can't help feel chuffed for the guy.

Honestly he's not Nicko and it is noticeable, he doesn't have that incredible rolling feel that Nick blessed us with. But Nicko truly was something special, and unique.

With all that said, I can't say I enjoyed the gig any less with Simon there. He sounds heavy and strong which gives the songs a different vibe.

If you go into a concert worrying about and looking for what's wrong, you're just gonna have a shitty time.

And for a bit of perspective... As Nicko himself said during one of his drum clinics "there are plenty of better drummers than me in this room... But I got the Maiden gig so fk you!"

Is Bruce the only lead singer of a classic metal band who has continued to sing songs in their original tuning, and mostly get away with it into old age? Pretty sure Dio, Halford played all their stuff in lower tunings as they aged. Metallica do as well obviously.

Dio didn’t downtune.

Priest are still in normal tuning aren’t they?

Dio definitely did. A lot of his stuff with Sabbath is in Eb. Check out songs like I and Heaven and Hell. It sounded even heavier/lower in their 2009 reunion (I haven't properly checked) but I wouldn't be surprised if it was down to D tuning by then.
