5 Bruce Dickinson - The Tower +1
2 Blaze Bayley - Stare At The Sun
7 Metallica - Disposable Heroes +1
0 Sacrifice - Forward To Termination/Terror Strikes
6 Avantasia - Avantasia +1
1 Primal Fear - Eden
5 Ghost - Cenotaph
2 Corrosion Of Conformity - Albatross +1
Stare At The Sun is a good song and
Silicon Messiah is great, but, come on: we're talking about an amazing track from one of the greatest albums Bruce has ever written. Easy vote for The Tower.
Same goes for the second match. I know it feels like a lot of these classic songs are foregone conclusions as winners but sometimes it's very justified.
Master of Puppets is a masterpiece and Disposable Heroes rules. Sacrifice has no chance of comparison here.
Avantasia delivers their manifesto of cheese, their maniqueso, and it's perfectly enjoyable. The chorus is catchy and it's a fun time despite Tobias' annoyingly try-hard voice. The doubled up and harmonized solo is perfectly silly. Primal Fear's song is just overlong and plodding by comparison. It's fine, but it doesn't do much.
Cenotaph is an okay Ghost tune making Children of the Grave somehow sound like 80s radio pop for riding jet skis, but Albatross is up there as one of COC's greatest of all time. If I was making a list of the Top 20 Ghost songs this one wouldn't even come close. The best part is Fredrik Åkesson's fun solo. Albatross is certainly on the southern, sludgey side of the metal spectrum but it is vastly heavier, groovier and all around superior to the competition here. Ghost running away with this match is definitely just Ghost favoritism.
Corrosion Of Conformity started as a Hardcore punk band but changed their style to a more Black Sabbath-style doomier Sludge metal when Pepper Keenan joined.
I still don't get along with any of their punk material and their newer stuff that feels like Pepper singing over some weird blend of groove metal and punk does nothing for me. Those middle albums full of bluesiness were their peak for me.
Keenan also auditioned for bassist in Metallica. Though he didn't join but played a crucial role in getting Jason Newsted in the band. No to mention, James Hetfield has lended his vocals on couple of Corrosion Of Conformity songs as well.
Not to mention Metallica spent
Load and
ReLoad trying to sound like COC.
