Round 2: For Those About To Rot!

I read a quote from Quincy Jones yesterday. I refused to verify it cos I liked it. Says he "The Beatles were a bunch of non-playing motherfuckers....McCartney was the worst bass player I ever seen." Ho ho ho.
In terms of Carcass, I entered a small, old pub in London one day last year. Real old, secluded down an alleyway.
The bar man goes "are you here for the 'gram?"
Says I "wha?"
"Oh most strangers we get in here come the the Instagram posts. We're London oldest pub."
I told him that I knew not of what he spoke and ordered a pint.
We got chatting about metal and he told me that one of Carcass drinks in there regularly.
So there's my tale about Carcass.
About the pub, there's a sign at the top of the alleyway saying "London oldest and most secret pub this way." Pointing out the secret seemed a tad funny to me.

Invincible Shield is, no doubt a great song for a band that debuted in 1974 and still going strong in the present but the overall feel of Venom Strike feels so organic and genuine. It's energy is just infectious. Both songs have a lengthy solo section, again Anthem sounds more strong in this department as well!
The Carcass song has got the melody from the Heartwork album as well as that rock n' roll groovy swagger from their late period albums like Swansong as well, so that's definitely a win for me. Malevolent Rapture is standard Death-Thrash but I won't call it my favourite...
To the Evergrey fans in the forum, I really liked Solitude Within but at a recent listen I realized the main melody (specially at the intro) sounds a lot similar to another song of theirs called "The Masterplan" (although that song came a couple years later) which, in my opinion, is a much better representation of the band.
Still a good song with a great modern-sounding production for it's time period. For me, Supremacy, Our Kind is just beautiful and dreamy. The chorus is HUGE! Space based sci-fi is a recurring theme in the band's discography.
For the 4th Match, I'm actually coming out of my comfort zone here. I'm not super familiar with Tool. Did try their music at several occasions before but yet to get into them properly. I actually really liked the theme behind Forty Six & 2. The music is pretty engaging as well.
When I first looked at @Shmoolikipod's list, I thought its gonna be full of Djent stuff. But his list has some really unique numbers which we will be seeing further! The Contortionist sounds like nice modern Prog band (in the lines of Between The Buried And Me and Plini) but Tool's song is a stronger contender here!

I hereby come forth and propose to you all that we set a voting period of no more than three days. Because those who don't give a fuck will do so even more willingly in the longer term.
There is an old adage that says that the show must go on, and that the train does not wait for those who are stuck on the toilet. My post was just a proposal, albeit a very convincing one. Also full of displays of good taste, good manners and profound knowledge... and then I got carried away. (In a straitjacket, as I am now.)
That's what the majority of people here will say, unless they're currently sitting on the toilet and completely consumed by Candy Crush.

A lot of the first round came down to the surprise factor. I knew what Invincible Shield is going to sound like before pressing play, and it's still great and reminds me a lot of the Firepower album which I love, but so is Venom Strike and I did just have more fun with Anthem.
Love the riffing and sound in Malevolent Rapture, the vocals were fine to me. It wasn't enough to move me from Carcass. I really wanted to have something from this album here and I think I spent 50% of the time I was making my list on picking the song
. But I really think it's up there with Heartwork. Scythe is a pretty epic closer that has a bit of everything from the rest of the album so I went with it. Metallica did the tic tic tic toc better though.
Solitude Within is quite incredible, I'll have to check out more Evergrey... It had some Symphony X vibes at places. I liked the Pagan's Mind song too but less consistently than Evergrey. The singer is incredible though.
Like Rob Halford said, 46&2 is the one I love to hate. No, not really, but it was never close to being the best song even just on Aenima. Meanwhile I discovered Language only this year, and it's wild, I thought people write words because they look pretty. I know that's what I did!
This song is beautiful and tender and it makes me emotional to the point of crying. It's one of two songs I locked into my list before even thinking about other options. I'm not sure which Tool songs would make this competitive, maybe Lateralus or The Pot.
