Rock sub genres

having a discussion of rock and roll sub genres with a friend...we lost count of em and putting specific bands and artists in correctly, but here is a sample of what we came up with as far as we see it. this is strictly opinions and input or education is appreciated

Heavy Metal- Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath
Thrash Metal- Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax
Hard Rock- AC/DC, Guns n Roses, Motley Crue
Arena Rock- Queen, Styx, Journey
Hair Metal- Def Leppard, Whitesnake, Bon Jovi
Progressive Rock- Rush, Yes, Pink Floyd
Grunge Rock- Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam

I guess the question is where Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, and other bands like Kiss are considered

probably some cross over with some of these bands as well
