Rob Halford likes AMOAD but Maiden loses to Slayer, Tool, and Celtic Frost

Isn't this the guy who plays in Testament? Haven't he listened to the new albums by bands in similar styles? It's scaring that such an important guy in the Metal scene is praising a lame emo band. He should support Metal.

He can support whatever he wants, you have no control over that. Get over it, whelp.

Hey teddiemask, don't sweat it. People are allowed to have diverse tastes in music. Just because someone likes Christina Aguilera doesn't mean that they can't like metal at the same time. Just because someone listens to Justin Timberlake doesn't mean that influence will show up in their music.

I understand your good intentions, SMX, but I'm afraid this kid is just trying to keep up an image of being "metal". Here's something to think about. If you think you need to do all this cliched nonsense in order to be "metal", that in itself it being a poser. Not tr00, eh?

Blimey...I make one typo, and the entire population of this forum makes sure I remember it for the rest of my life... :innocent:

How else are the forum members supposed to exert some sense of superiority over each other?

As for the best albums of the year, I'd go for the new releases by Summoning, Celtic Frost, Drawn & Quartered and Necrophobic.

I'm not trying to be true metal. It was just shocking seeing Eric Peterson voting for My Chemical Romance. Or are you all gonna say you were expecting that? Or that you were expecting Mille Petrozza from Kreator voting for MUSE?

Ok, different tastes, but c'mon. I'm not trying to be true metal, instead... THEY'RE TRYING to be DIFFERENT, keeping their images of open-minded people.

Arch Enemy's Michael Amott has a good list... and so does Vicious Rumors' Geoff Thorpe and Biomechanical's John K. (by the way, GREAT BAND! I didn't know about them, but had to check their songs after reading their vocalist's list. And they fucking own).

This has all to do with having a laugh rather than trying to "exert some sense of superiority over each other" - and I'm sure Raven saw it that way.

But as for Celtic Frost - I have had a demo version of Ground on my PC since 2004 (yes, 2004), but despite all the listens, I have yet to listen to/purchase/borrow/whatever Monotheist.

You obviously like these bands (Testament and Kreator), so has their taste in music in any way diminished your opinion(s) of what they have so far produced? Thought not. ;)

And as for Muse - they are indeed a good band. I have not heard their latest effort, but "Origin Of Symmetry" and "Hullabaloo" (although most of it is from a live show) are good albums. They do produce quality and it not surprising to see so many cite this as one of their favourites of 2006 (if the previous stuff was anything to go by).

It hasn't change... it's just surprising and not always positively surprising. Mille mentioning different bands isn't so hard to understand... he released a terrible album called Endorama. Every Kreator fan remembers and hates that album. Anyway, Eric Peterson has an almost Black Metal band called Dragonlord, besides being one of the masters of Testament... so, My Chemical Romance in his list is a negative surprise. My Chemical Romance sucks.

ok... I've heard them previously and thought they suck. But I will give it another try.

Excuse me? I'm a very big Kreator fan and I think that Endorama is an amazing album, its sounds quite different to Pleasure To Kill and Coma Of Souls but it is a very strong album and has some superb songs on it (Golden Age is one of my favourite Kreator songs). Please don't make generalisations, as you will be wrong in them 99% of the time. -_-

Attention teddiemask:

At first, I thought you were over-reacting to this issue, as noted above. I was even thinking along the same lines as Black Dragon, that you were trying to be "tr00 metal".

However, your recent posts indicate that you are indeed more open-minded and intelligent than I first assumed. So if you took any offense to anything, I apologize. Welcome to Maidenfans! We enjoy lively discourse and intelligent arguments here, and it appears you are qualified.

So if you see anyone here ( *cough* Perun *cough* ) giving you a hard time, just fire back at them (within the bounds of politeness). Don't let our bickering throw you off - we're just having some fun.

As for myself, I'm not a fan of metal with guttural vocals (as many people here may know). But I keep seeing people talk about these bands in positive terms, so I'll make an early New Year's resolution to check some of this stuff out with an open mind.

In the meantime, I'm also going to keep listening to Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake, just to piss off the tr00 metallers.

Personally, I can't get very excited about any of their stuff.  They have some good riffs, but the vocals are a bit too soft for my tastes; just a bit too 'Top 40'.  Still, I listen to Dschinghis Khan, so go figure. :innocent:

@SMX: If you're going to approach harsh vocals with an open mind, and you listen to Opeth, I suggest you check out some Dark Tranquillity.  It's impossible to not find their music melodic, and Michael Stanne has a very clear, yet agressive voice-I often find it easier to decipher his lyrics than those sung by Bruce (of later years).

I have listened to Dark Tranquility, and I do like them. But I haven't listened very much (only a couple plays for each album) so I'll check them out some more.

Try some Eucharist, SMX. If you like them, I can send you some other albums of their ilk that you might enjoy.

Hi SinisterMinisterX, first... thanks!  :)

I'm ok. I don't know if I over-reacted... I think I reacted to a negative surprise (negative for me).

I'd recommend Unleashed for guttural vocals. Excellent Death Metal.

Well, after all, Christina Aguilera can sing (maybe), but her music sucks still.

And so do Kreator's Endorama. I can't see anything good on that album, except that after it they realized how good Kreator is and started to release killer albums again.

What about us joining those 155 musicians there in the article and picking our 3 favorite albums of 2006?

I would say:

Iron Maiden - A Matter Of Life And Death
Kreator - Enemy Of God (the rerelease from 2005 with extra DVD)
Dismember - The God That Never Was

This year was so good to Metal that I can't find room to releases from other genres. Even if I was picking a Top 10.

That is a good idea..

I have to say my favourite albums this year were only two:

Of course A Matter of Life and Death and Slayer's Christ Illusion.

Just a small answer to the previous posts about emo bands:  Well, in my very own personal opinion, I don't even care about 'em, perhaps because of the fact that at my univ many people listent to it, and I always think the popular genres just have like a little boom, and after that they dissapear.  I apologize if anyone of you listens to that music, but only in my opinion, it will dissapear and after a few years, no one will ever listen to them.

Cheers, and Up the Irons

it will disappear just as grunge did. It's just another trend that got big in America and suddenly got spreaded all over the world.

Fuck grunge and emo shit. Fuck heavy metal musicians voting for emo lame ass bands.

Trivium is ok... it's not My Chemical Romance. Man, there's a female singer there voting for Justin Timberlake and a guy from a Black Metal band (Turisas, is that a Black Metal band?) voting for Christina Aguilera. That's too much... they're forcing things a bit.
Can`t Believe!...oh man...:|...nothing to say...

Oh no! There's someone with an own opinion! And- oh no! It's even different from mine! The world is going to explode!

<_<

I have to say I couldnt care less if Slayer,Tool ,Celtic Frost etc albums are rated higher then Maidens by anyone to be honest I really wouldnt categorise maiden in with those bands anyway. Are Maiden a HM band ? have to say for me they are more in the realms of Classic Hard Rock than metal ie all of Maidens songs have melody which really could not be applied to the aforementioned bands,I have always categorised Maiden with Deep Purple ,Led Zep,Sabbath ,Rush,ACDC,Saxon ,Priest etc

Postcount +1! Errh... I mean... An opinion from a certain artist himself, does not count as anything. Sure, Rob Halford could love Britney Spears for all we know, but why should I give a damn? It's not likely he'd go and make a popalbum. Everything an artist like does not always reflect on the music that he makes. And if it does, then it might as well be positive. Just listen to "The Rage" from the "British Steel" album. It's metal meets reggae in the intro, and it sounds great.
