Rise To Remain to support Maiden in 2011

I'm jealous of those of you who got DIO as an opener! Still, I got Queensryche and Halford in 2000 and Testament in 1992 so I can't complain.
I got Dio in 2OO3. After he died i kicked myself for not seeing him at Red Rocks last year(?) Was Halford good?

DIO was great, especially Holy Diver when the whole audience joined in.  Motorhead who played the same show were a disappointment.  They were too fuckin' loud to be perceptible. Though I love the band.

I'd totally dig almost anyone else but those 2 bands to open for them. Metalcore isn't really my scene at all and I doubt it is for many maiden fans.

yeah, and at least in my experience through school/college theres a sort of rift between fans of one and the other with the core fans saying maiden isnt 'real' metal and calling them pop etc... and i in lack of people who DO like real metal have to hang out with them, still im being a missionary and attemting to convert them  :edmetal:
if this support serves any purpose it would be to show core fans how to really put on a show  :)

in addition right now i wouldnt mind an in flames support (back into them) to swing the genre seasaw to another tangent from maiden
hey rush are touring prior to maiden,  -_- if only

As long as Maiden are having newer and younger bands open for them I'd love to see Holy Grail open for them. :shred:

Here's a few links to some of their songs for those that aren't familiar with them.

Holy Grail is touring North America with Blind Guardian now.  I'd never heard of them before that tour was announced, then checked them out, to determine whether it's worth showing up early at the venue to see them before seeing Blind Guardian.  Not bad.  Not bad at all.  Looking forward to seeing them live, hope they put on a good opening act.

Holy Grail are really bad.  I saw them opening for Blind Guardian and...

I can't stand much power metal.  Blind Guardian are great because they realize how inherently cheesy and awful the lyrics are, and just strive to create an energy filled atmosphere with lots of fun.

Holy Grail take themselves seriously.  Despite their name.  And their songs.  And they sound like every other power metal band out there.

That being said, I'd much rather have them open for Maiden than the current bunch.

I'm not sure I (or they) would agree with that.  Nerdy, they would certainly admit, but I'm guessing they'd take offense at "cheesy and awful."  Presumably they realize they are writing for a certain audience, but that doesn't mean they think their lyrics are bad.  From what I have read, I think at least Hansi genuinely likes the subject matter of the songs -- that's the stuff he reads, according to him -- and he claims to take their music VERY seriously.  Given that they have devoted their professional lives to this material, one hopes they DO take themselves seriously.  The evidence suggests they do.  For example, they are working on an orchestral album, which betrays a certain level of self-seriousness, anyway, and I have seen video in which Hansi says, "we promise we won't write crap."

As for Holy Grail, I have no idea what their lyrics even say -- I've just briefly heard a handful of songs and the music sounds good to me.  Perhaps it is generic, but the few songs I heard struck me as "not bad."  (Of course, unlike Guinea Pig I DO like some power metal, so we may just have different preferences.)  That they take themselves and their craft seriously speaks well of them, in my view.  I'd rather listen to that than Steel Panther.

EDIT:  I will concede that bands should have fun on stage, even if they take their songwriting and recording very seriously.  On the latest Iron Maiden tour, my friend who went with me (it was his first Maiden show) commented that Maiden's show had a certain amount of "whimsy," which I thought was a good observation -- from Eddie Puppet 'playing' a guitar to Bruce's banter to the stuffed bear on Nicko's kit, Maiden combines its serious music with lighthearted, fun touches.  Blind Guardian certainly has a fair amount of whimsy, too -- they have played "Mr. Sandman" and Beach Boys songs in concert.  By comparison, for example, Iced Earth does not.  I like Iced Earth's live show, primarily because the music was so good and the performance is so tight, but it was admittedly not quite as "fun."

I think it has a lot to do with the nature of the music.  Iced Earth music is a lot darker and heavier, so it's harder to make it a joke.  European power metal bands in general take themselves less seriously live, and their music is also more melodic and lighter than American.  Just look how "anti-metal" the singer of Sonata Arctica dresses live.  And Helloween did a puppet show on stage when I saw them in 2007.  Etc.

Alice Cooper is supporting Maiden in Finland. I'd imagine it would apply to some other parts of Europe, too.

I saw in a Norwegian forum now that AC is confirmed as "special guest" for the show in Oslo, so it seems he will be doing a leg of the tour with Maiden...

Well shit, I've never cared for opening acts but FRACK ME!!! This would be AMAZING! Alice is a legend and would certainly keep Maiden on their toes.
