Return Of Backing Vocals Of Steve And Adrian On Maiden Album?

The latest Kevin Diary says:

"I have four songs mixed for the album, which I've told you is going to have 10 songs in the end. There is a fifth on the console, which Steve [Harris, bass] is going to sing some backing vocals and play some keyboards on today .....

and

....Adrian [Smith, guitar] was in to sing a backing vocal along with Steve."

It's a long time ago since I heard backing vocals on an Iron Maiden studio-album, coming from another Maiden member, apart from the lead singer.

Last (possible) memories??

1986-
Wasted Years (Adrian)

1984-
The Duellists (backing vocals in the chorus - Oooooohoooooo - might be from other Maiden guys besides Bruce)

1983-
Die With Your Boots On ("If you're gonna die" - sounds like vocals from other Maiden guys besides Bruce)

1981-
Killers - Wrathchild might have backing vocals from Steve (and H)?

1980 -Iron Maiden album: Steve and Dennis doing backing vocals on several tracks.

Don't forget the last chorus of "Blood brothers" where H sings along with Bruce.

Well, these things are difficult to prove, but I always thought that Bruce did all the vocals on the whole BNW album.

'Arry sings in Paschendaele (on the DVD version of Death on the Road anyway)

There is a couple more (sort of) recent ones:

Chains of Misery
The Assassin

That's not the point of this topic guys. It's about backing vocals on Iron Maiden albums. I think that it was ages ago that others besides Bruce and Blaze recorded such vocals in the studio.

I guess you're right here - on the studio version it is Bruce himself doing the backing vocals. There are bound to be more songs that H and 'Arry sang in between 1990 and 2003?

There could be some indeed. I never noticed these contributions though. The only songs that have a different "voice-sound" in my ears are the ones mentioned in the period of 1980-1986.

(I deleted the Clansman option - this is Blaze only, I assume).

Certainly the two I mentioned above have a different "voice-sound" to Bruce - to my ears anyway. But that's not to detract from what you originally said, that backing vocals have been absent for many a studio album.

I'm glad 'arry and H are doing backup vocals. On the Death On The Road DVD they each had backup vocal spots and I really enjoyed Adrian's singing. He complimented Bruce rather well, and I was pleased to hear that he has quite a nice voice. It also makes the album effort, and then doing the songs live, more of a BAND effort since more people are involved, even if it's only background vocals.

That's exactly what I think. Paschendale is a good example of this 'band-feel!'

I am curious how it will sound on the new studio album

I agree with you there. I think Steve's backing vocals at the "Cruelty has a human heart..." part sound brilliant live.

That's my favorite moment of the whole live album/dvd!

Great stuff! ::

Id like to have seen Adrian do more vocals on past albums. My personal favorite Adrian-backing moment would probably have to be his backing vocals on "The Prisoner" on Maiden England. Bring on the Steve-Adrian backing vocals!

There have also been backing vocals on VXI. "The Educated Fool" (the Time will flow... part) is the most obvious example.

There have been indeed. Though, I think they are from Blaze, not from Steve nor anyone else.

Back in the mid 80's a friend of mine had I single I listened to a few times that had Adrian singing lead vocals, not sure the name of the song, maybe called reach out? I think it was on the flip side of sheriff of huddersfield. I thought he had a great voice, and wondered at the time why he didn't sing more, I suppose Bruce would say forget it, I am the singer, you are the guitar player.

upuaut

Spot on there, it was Reach Out and H did vocals on that. Commentary <a href="http://www.maidenfans.com/imc/?url=single15_wastedyears/commentary15_wastedyears&lang=eng&link=singles#track2">here </a>

Mav - I had this post ready to submit!

Despite my spelling of COMMENTARY.

AND despite my use of "sing" as oppose to "vocals"
