If Iron Maiden suddenly decided to play melodic death metal they would've sounded like this band. Out of the Big 3 of melodic death metal (with In Flames and At The Gates), this one is the best IMO.

On to the song: I suggest that if you are now going to hear this song for the first time, you first listen to the following live version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=diFu9Sc8ELM&hd=1 and then the original version. This song sounds much better with "backing vocals" from the audience, similar to Fear Of The Dark.
Anyway, it's an awesome song, with nice subtle keyboards, good solos and drumming, and fantastic vocals (Mikael Stanne is one of the best extreme metal vocalists).
10/10.

A fantastic song, absolutely one of DT's best.  The melody is extremely catchy and this song just works live.  I agree about Stanne, plus he's one of the best metal frontmen I know.  I give it 9, with 10 reserved for some Maiden epics and other very exceptional songs.

Dark Tranquility eh? That main melody sounds a bit too happy (hallelujah) for me.

But I like most of those other riffs!

8 (first I had 7 - and voted 7, but a few more plays made me focus on the cool parts).

(my son began to dance by the way! ;) )

Funny you should say that, the song is anti-religion. ;)  And your son obviously has a great taste for music!

One of these days you guys are going to surprise me and hook me with one of these types of songs.
You didn't this time, but it came closer than most.
My standard line has been "good music spoiled by bad vocals."
This goes a step beyond because even on first listen it's a good song with good music spoiled by the vocal style.
I am quite sure if it had more traditional singer I would be downloading it as we speak.

I never knew you had a son Foro! Thats awesome, how old is he? :)

2 years and 4 months.

@mckindog: now if you'd believe how much cool music is out there with non traditional vocals, you might get over that issue. Give it a chance, play more music of such bands and we'll talk again in 2012. :)

I hated harsh vocals a lot when I started listening to metal, but I got used to them gradually... But I still can't listen to overly deep growls like in some brutal death metal or grind bands.

Awesome Foro! :)

And I agree with NP, the more I listen the more I like it. Still don't like overly deep growls like Cannibal Corpse either though.

Thanks Jupz! :)

It also depends on how cool the music is, I guess. The more I am into the music, the more I can tolerate the vocals.

And powerful, dark, aggressive and fast music isn't always sounding better with a traditional voice, believe me.
The dark voice can give more "colour" even. Some of my favourite parts with grunts, I can't imagine that it would sound better with a clean voice instead.

I suggest you try another DT song then, where Stanne switches between growling and clean, to good effect.

Yeah, kind of feel the same way about this one.
Good song, still Struggle with the grunted parts.
