I didn't like the artwork at all! I'm very sick of this puppet eddie! It seems as good as 3d people of DoD cover! Bring back painted covers or replace it with something better!!!!!

The idea is no good too! Eddie smiling in front of rain! how nice and original!!!! in derek works, there were always an original idea. Flight Of Icarus, PoM, Powerslave, SiT, NoTB or 7th Son related all artwork... They are all visually stunning and had a clever idea inside.


They totally screwed with DoD related artwork except photographs inside the sleeve.

I thought the artwork looks cool... Kinda like the Mcfarlane figures. I guess the earlier drawings on the album are too old-school for me. [!--emo&:D--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/biggrin.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'biggrin.gif\' /][!--endemo--]
 
Ain`t an amazing artwork at all, but prefer it from the album cover.
Hope there will always be `this puppet eddie` on the covers !!!!
Mt fav. covers are The trooper and Killers

It's quite good.

We can't expect a really great piece of artwork every time though can we? How many hundreds must Riggsy have come up with already? Even if we have only seen aboyt 30 of them. Thats an interesting thought though. How much would you give to look at the prospective album or single covers?

So also we may expect mediocre albums, awful concerts... becaue they already did many seccessful tours and near 10 godlike albums.

no no... what's difficult isn't reaching the top, but staying on top.

Contrary, we should all expect better and better works.

PS: I'm sure youy didn't mean every work to be low quality, but for a band as big as Iron Maiden, 4 consecutive covers (OOTSP, DoD, Wildest Dreams, Rainmaker) being not-so-good quality, is the the limit of tolerence.

If they were to do mediocre albums and awful tours would we actually care? Yes.

If they produced things with "crap" artwork, would we actually care? Not really.

Was the fact that they did a few albums with good covers an integral part of their success? No. Do we buy Iron Maiden albums because they look good? No?

In conclusion, I (and I think I speak for a lot of us) don't actually care wether Iron Maiden albums, singles, Christmas cards or handbags don't look as good as previous ones. Maiden are a metal band, they make music. Lets judge them by their music shall we?

I agree with saying that we love Iron Maiden's music.

But I strongly disagree with you saying that we shouldn't care acbout the covers.

They are side elements of the concept of an album. I can't think of a Powerslave album without its cover. If it was different, than I'd remind the album in a different way. Same for concert settings etc. If music alone is what you care, you should go and copy the CD from a friend, because even seeing a cover for little time would change the experience you get from the content. (I don't say it changes the pleasure you get, but the experience) but in the case of something as badly done as DoD cover... I hid it somewhere. My copy don't have a cover anymore.

Why I am talking so sure? Because I am studying visual communication design.

and I am mostly interested in 3D, so I can't stand baby's leg overlapping with icy-wolf-doll. Even an amateur 3d artist wouldn't do that...
 
Well, covers do mean something. Excellent points were made by (original Maiden Commentary webmaster) Baeleron in his Album covers rant.

One point was "imagine Powerslave with the Load cover. That would be no feeling and no mood for the album". And you all know it's true.
 
Yes, that may be so, but at this stage in the Iron Maiden story, I don't care what their CDs look like as long as the music is good. They can wrap it in bog roll for all I care. I (and I am sure I am not alone in thinking this) believe that the cover art is by no means something we should all get mad about it because they don't like the latest few pieces of artwork.

By the way, eddieson, correct my if I am wrong, but do you think that Iron Maiden suck now? Would you be prepared to not get an Iron Maiden CD if it had Debbie McGee on the front? Would you refrain from buying it if it looked bad?
 
I think the problem is that Maiden have such a great tradition of excellent covers? Anyone else used to go to the music shops and look through all the T shirts and posters you could get in those days? Everyone had (still has) their favourite Maiden covers and a new album or single cover from Maiden has always been a subject of much anticipation.

I really can not for the life of me fathom why no one said or thought that the DoD cover was poor. The band aren't stupid. They must realise it's shit cos everyone else does.
 
aye but that doesn't change that Dance of Death has an appalling cover.
