Questions about LAD DVD and possible problem

Just got the DVD (it was just released in the US today). Watched the documentary, and I'm very impressed. There were two things that really stuck with me...

1. The level of detail these guys still remember after all the years and shows they've done since. That tour obviously must have made a huge impression on all of them.

2. In the closing credits, they list all the people who appeared in the documentary, including their years with the band. Note how almost all the crew members are still with them today. Good rock crew guys change bands often, working on whatever tour they can get a job with. The loyalty of Maiden's crew is astounding.

And seeing all those photos from the World Slavery Tour Program brought back some memories. I have a personal story about that which I've never posted here...

I have posted in the past that I had been aware of Maiden since 1982 and "Run To The Hills", and that I had heard their albums from friends. I liked the music, but wasn't crazy about it just yet. Then a friend who went to the World Slavery tour and got a program showed it to me. It was looking through that program which pushed me over the edge, so to speak: it made me really interested in the band. I bought LAD the next day; the rest is history.

All Los Angeles-area Best Buy stores appear to be sold out already, according to the website.  :(  Bastards probably ordered only a couple copies for each store, underestimating demand.

Same here...even Border's Books were "out of stock." I said screw it, and ordered from Amazon. It'll be here by Friday. Sucks waiting an extra few days...

Got my copy today at FYE.  Problems, Problems!

Disc #1 was broken!  The inside edge of the center hole was smashed into jagged pieces!  The case was full of little chips of plastic.  :(  Instead of a round hole, I have about 1/2 to 3/4 of a hole (so to speak).  I don't see how it could play in this condition, so I'm not even going to risk putting it in my dvd player.

Disc #2 played great....up to a point.  Behind the Iron Curtain is fine until the first song (Aces High).  The sound starts doing weird things during Churchill's speech, and when the song actually starts,  the sound is all screwed up.  It's like one of the guitars and the bass are missing from the mix!

Anyone else having sound problems?  I am listening in stereo, not 5.1 surround or anything.  Tried it on 2 dvd players with no improvement.

Anyway,  gonna take this back tomorrow and pray for good fortune on the exchange.

Behind the Iron Curtain I find the best item on this release (by far!)  :ok:
BTW, Pretty funny to hear Hallowed Be Thy Name with one guitarist (Dave!)

I'm really looking forward to getting this.  But the Japanese release was delayed until the 14th of February.  Only a day before their first show here.

I remember Behind the Iron Curtain video, it was the first Maiden video I bought.  I'm really looking forward to watching the extended version.

"You can't play heavy metal with synthesizers!"

Maidenmig, I am also having problems with the 5.1 surround track. Is anybody else experiencing this and if os, does anybody have any ideas why?

The sound levels keep going up, down etc

thanks

Well,  I don't have a surround sound set-up, so I just don't know.  Usually, there are no issues playing 5.1 audio through my stereo system.  Didn't the Death on the Road DVD have sound issues with the 5.1 mix originally?

I must say that in the past I have had zero problems with music dvds.  The quality of manufacture has always been high.  However, with movie discs I seem to run across defects all the time.  Maybe the quality control is getting harder with so many discs being manufactured now.  :S

I had a great homecoming today. When I got in the door after work at 5.30 this evening, my copy was on the floor inside the mail box    I know what I'm gonna do tonight...

Hey mate,

I noticed that as well (only watched the main LAD DVD so far though). I checked my Audio setup (DVD player, not disc). If you have the option to do this, check & see if your audio is setup to play 96 khz & not 48 khz. The higher the number, the better the sound. At 48khz you get some kind of compression that must limit the sound coming through (this is all pure guess work on my part I have to say, but it seemed to work!!).

Also, if you have the option to play either LPCM or Bitstream, choose LPCM!

None of the above might be any help, so if not, try fiddlig about with your DVD players audio setup!!

:ok:

Got mine today from Amazon. Haven't watched it yet, but the holding bracket for disk two had some nubs break off, and doesn't hold the disc too securely. I may ask for a return, which will be a pain in the ass. But I'm watching before I do!

Anyway,  for those in the States, I noticed that FYE had 3 copies total (one was defective).  They were on sale for $14.99.

Yeah, we get this great double DVD of LAD for LESS than you pay for the LAD cd!

I'm loving this!

Watched the concert itself (disc 1) tonight. Fuckin' 'ell, this is soooooo great!

Since I haven't watched the video of the concert before, I was a bit surprised when the comments in between the songs were different. I guess the recordings on the LAD CD are from one of the other nights?

Oh well. Tomorrow night I'll watch the other stuff (the other disc) but for now, only one thing to say:

:D

Yea, they played 4 nights at Long Beach Arena and the video was one night, while the album was from another night.

And what did you think when seeing ROTAM like this? That midpiece has such a nice build-up. All other thoughts are banned in these couple of minutes. Stunning.

I'm also pretty curious what you think of disc 2. I love all that footage, especially Behind The Iron Curtain!
I've been to that huge ruin myself, some years ago.
