So, to atheists:  can an atheist not believe in 'god' and still believe that death doesn't mean the total end of existence?  Is it possible, that even without a heaven or hell, there could be some further level of existence?

I have not seen any evidence to indicate an afterlife, so I don't live my life thinking too much about it. I believe that nothing will happen, and that makes me an atheist I guess, but in the end you can't really know.

I do. And I don't see any contradiction. I'm speaking about the god as described in Christian Tradition
a superior force that controls everything and even he has interest of what each one of us does in his life.

No. I can not believe in such a thing and I'm surprised of how so many people do.
Nor that the mother of Christ was a virgin, nor that Christ was something more than a man.

Yeah, I don't believe there's something after life. That's why death scares me when I think about it. It's the end of life rather then "the beyond" that I'm afraid of.

All the more reason to live a good life.

This is why I think parents bug their children for grandchildren. That is the most primal form of immortality, progeny. Your genes are living on, your legacy. Then of course their are the memories. My home's hallway is covered in pictures from the early 1900's to present and I constantly ask my mom, "who is that?" "that's your uncle bob that married your aunt susie and that over there is his father xavier from Honduras...." Most of these folks are long gone, but their memory lives on thanks to family... I think that's as close to an "afterlife" as one can get...

I remember someone posted a vid on Creatonists view on evolution. Well, here's the same Creatonists view on atheism (second video). The rhetorics are hilarious.

Amusing.  They're using the banana as an example, when of course, it is a preferential ape food.  The human eye is actually quite inefficient in comparison to other animals visual senses.  Good thing we have larger brains to compensate.  Too bad, Kirk Cameron has not learned to use his.  I wouldn't waste my time to watch further, even though I was amused.

Aren't you a believer?

I also see both sides of the issue. remember since we don't know what really happens after we die, rituals like funerals, family pictures and the like are really for the living. One doesn't have to be a sports star or a dictator to achieve immortality in the annals of history... just procreate... :D
