Empire should have been a little higher in my view. Though the winner is pretty obvious.

Yep. Mindcrime has huge highlights but also songs I don't care for that much. And I especially dislike Suite. As a whole album I like Warning more, there's nothing I am annoyed about.

Foro's got a point. Warning is more consistent. The "filler" on Mindcrime took years to grow on me. There was I time when I routinely skipped both Suite and The Mission.

However, the "filler" on Mindcrime is still better than most of Warning. If Mindcrime seems inconsistent, it's only because of those "huge highlights" Foro mentioned, where QR really knocked it out of the park.

So I get where Foro is coming from, but I think voting for Warning is like praising the rest of the runners while Usain Bolt is shattering records.

Warning is a strong album but it doesn't have many qualities that make it special for me. Mindcrime single-handedly made Queensryche great (for me). If it wasn't for that album, they'd just be an average 80s Metal band in my eyes.

Edit: Also what's with the hate for Suite? That song kicks major ass.

I wouldn't be "Blinded" by letting Operation Mindcrime overshadow the earlier work so much. I hear so many good things that Queensryche is the last name that comes in mind when I think of average 80s metal bands.

I find their first three albums (Queensryche included) quite original and of a very high quality. Nothing average about it. Warning has cool riffing and very nice melodic guitar work, in which I love the Maiden influences, but still with songwriting of their own. There's also a great atmosphere. Rage for Order is modern, you won't hear anything like it (in that era). And that album as well has catchy moments.

I haven't played Suite in years but I always thought too little happens and too little changes to keep my attention in more than 10 minutes. In combination with its length the track made me impatient. I also dislike that woman's voice. The good: I like the chorus(?) Mary, sweet lady of pain but it's short and only featured twice.

I can see why you'd prefer warning if you think songs like Mission and Suite are filler.
To me Suite is magnificent and the album has no filler.

If we talk duets with female singers, I rather wake up at night for stuff like Phantom Opera Ghost by Iced Earth. Then Suite can make me fall asleep afterwards again. ;)

Blinded? I think I'm capable of listening to the music and deciding for myself what something sounds like.

I find their other albums to be fairly average. Good, but not something I'll consider in my list of favorites. Mindcrime is the album that makes them stand out to me.

Right now I'm deciding for myself that this sounds like you do not know Blinded is a Queensryche song.
