Purgatory

Is the second half of the song mostly the same recording as the first, or is it a different version entirely? I mean, a few parts are obviously different (e.g., “walking” instead of “floating up beside you” and the second half of the chorus), but most of it sounds identical to me. Are my ears just not sharp enough to catch the subtle nuances in Di'Anno's voice?

They are very similar indeed. I'm pretty sure they are different, but it took a half a dozen side by side listens to be sure. The first obvious difference is on the line "through the darkness I'll be led" where he goes to a high scream on the first verse. But the delivery of everything up to that point is virtually identical both times.

For instance, take the word "seen" at the end of the line "places I have never seen". Comparing both side by side, I hear more sibilance and slightly more volume the first time, but they're damn close. Or the ending of the word "floor"; those are very close but slightly different.

I see what you mean about "seen". The ending of "floor" still sounds exactly the same to me though.

Another one is in the second verse where he says "or" before "is it me? I just don't know", whereas he doesn't the first time. (Or is it just me?)
