It's something that happens at British festivals all the time. You were at the Knebworth Sonisphere in 2010 weren't you? There were quite a few flags in the front section of the crowd that weekend and the big screens occasionally had messages asking flag bearers to be more considerate but that was never going to work. On the Sonisphere forums there were a lot of requests to have a flag ban in the arena and the organizers eventually agreed and a ban was introduced for 2011. People still managed to take flags in though, but there was noticeably less flags last year. I actually think that having flags can be pretty cool but it gets to a point where it's ridiculous.I just checked... yeah, the amount of flags up front is ridiculous. You basically don't have a single shot of the stage that isn't from the barrier that doesn't have a flag waving in it. It's not a great loss though, there was a live stream back then, and you will find a bootleg of that without much effort.
I agree. Iron Maiden already have a lot of live albums and they don't need to release one after every studio album. I like the idea of a concert being recorded every few years, especially if it's a special concert like Rock in Rio. There wasn't anything particularly special about the Dortmund show for Death on the Road and Maiden have already recorded a show from Donnington Park. Now they are going to release another DVD filmed in South America but that will technically be the third one they've done. They have recorded and released shows from North America, South America, mainland Europe and the UK (but we are still waiting for a DVD release of Maiden England), so I would like to see them release a DVD from Asia or Australia. When they next go to Japan will surely be one of the most amazing shows they'll ever do, and 'When the Wild Wind Blows' will be incredible considering the circumstances behind the original shows' cancellation.I'm getting tired of all these live releases in general. Sure it's nice to have a souvenir from the tours, but that's what bootlegs and live b-sides used to be for. If you dish out a live album every other year, it's going to lose its magic. Live shows used to be something special because they were a unique experience that you just couldn't re-live.
I agree with you on this point as well, it's so frakking frustrating isn't it? Especially if you're short. What's the point? Take one or two photos for yourself by all means, but don't stand there during the entire show holding up your cellphone and distracting those around you or shoving them away just to take 50 pictures a minute that are all nearly identical. I never understood that.
