Ok, I love reading the police reports in my campus newspaper and every so often some moron makes the dumbest mistake and loses a possesion of high value. these are just but a few of the most recent. I don't condone theft at all but some people are just stupid.

A $1,378.76 Dell laptop was stolen Oct. 5 from the Little Chapel of All Nations, 1052 N. Highland Ave. When police arrived a woman told them someone had been using the laptop at the center around 4 p.m. The woman said the person left and came back an hour later to find the laptop was gone. The door to the room that the laptop was in had been left unlocked. Police have no suspects or witnesses, reports stated.

Someone stole a student’s $90 science and engineering textbook Oct. 6 from the Main Library, 1510 E. University Blvd. the student told police he had been on the third floor studying when he went down to the basement to print some homework. The student said when he returned 10 minutes later the textbook was gone. The student told police there had been water stains on the textbook. Police have no suspects or witnesses, reports stated.

A student’s $125 ring and $125 bracelet from Tiffany & Co. were stolen from her room in La Paz Residence Hall, 602 N. Highland Ave., sometime within the last two weeks, reports stated. The student said she noticed the ring was missing from her desk on Oct. 3 at 1. P.m, but thought she had misplaced it. On Sunday, she noticed the bracelet missing from the same place. The student said she believes the items were stolen and not misplaced, as she had previously assumed, because she could not find them in her room. The student said she does not suspect her roommate and doesn’t know who might have taken the items. The student and her roommate said they don’t always lock their door when they leave the room and their friends also frequent the room. Police told the student to keep her belongings in a more secure place in her room and to always lock the door, even if she or her roommate were only leaving the room for a moment.

A students $1,100 laptop was stolen Saturday from a table on the fifth floor of the Main Library at 3:40 p.m. The student said he left his laptop on the table when he went to the lobby to use his phone, when he returned the laptop was gone. A woman sitting in the area said she had been studying and heard something fall. She looked up and saw a man. The woman said she did not see the man take the laptop, but he was the only man in the area. The student said he looked around the area but did not see anyone who might have taken the laptop. He followed the man the woman suspected out of the library and told police he was at Starbucks. Police found the man at Starbucks and he let them search hi backpack. Police did not find the laptop on the man and they ruled hi out as a suspect. The student did not have the serial number for the laptop.

A student’s $1,600 laptop was stolen Oct. 20 from the Main library. The student said he had been studying around 9 p.m and had put his laptop on a table. The student said he left to go to the restroom and came back 10 minutes later to find the laptop gone. The student said h had bought the laptop in Japan so its serial numbers were probably different than U.S. serial numbers.

A student’s laptop bag containing two textbooks, a calculator and miscellaneous paperwork was stolen from the third floor of the Main Library late Wednesday night. The student left his bag on a table at 11:30 p.m., and when he returned 20 minutes later it was gone. The student said the value of the contents including a textbook, “Theory of Computation,” were about $50.

A student’s $500 ecstatic guitar and $250 electric guitar were stolen sometime between Friday and Saturday from the student’s room in the Sigma Pi fraternity house. When police arrived the student told them he had last seen the guitars around 10 P.M. Friday and noticed they were missing around 2 a.m. Saturday. The student said the guitars had been leaning up against his wall in plain view of the window. The student said the window had been unlocked. It did not look like there had been any forced entry. It looked like someone had slid the window open and climbed inside. The student said he didn’t suspect anyone in particular and wasn’t sure if it was a fraternity prank.

Moral of the story: DON'T LEAVE YOUR VALUABLES IN PLAIN SIGHT AND NEVER LEAVE YOUR LAPTOP UNATTENDED!!!!!!! Locking your doors helps too!
 
In Reforma Avenue, a street in Mexico City, the city government set scultpures on the medians and sidewalks to beautify it... some were stolen, they were either returned unharmed or found with minor damage... some people gees.
