Perun logging off

Hey, Per!!

Yeah, just a few birthdays, and a million new topics in Maiden chat by all the wayward IMBB posters, looking for a nest to roost in.

Cheers for the welcome, guys. As I said, I won't be on here very much as I've got a lot of things to sort out right now, so it might also be a bit until you read my reviews of the two festivals, but they will come. Oh, and heavy birthday for all those I missed!

Just letting you all know that because my computer is a piece of shit and decided to die just like that (in a time when I really need it for my uni work), my availability is going to be limited for an unknown, but hopefully not too long period of time.

Everything- it won't turn on. I was able to do some experiments, and right now it seems to be the combination of two things- a defective contact with the power button (which I can't fumble my way to), and my hard disk, which seems to be broken, or at least it won't boot anymore. I've been able to connect it to another computer with an USB adapter, and it loads when the computer has booted. I was a bit pissy about it because that hard disk has all my uni stuff on it, but apparently I'll at least be able to do some backups there, but for a working computer it seems I need a new one.

Well, you can get pretty cheap laptops nowadays.  Good thing you didn't lose any work, it might have been disastrous at that point of your studies.

Sounds like your HDD is ok, then, if you can access info from it.  Looks like you won't lose your info, at least.  Probably, if you got a new computer, you could just add that HDD to it, and have all your info.

Wow! I never knew you were gone. I guess it must have been due to my own "sabbatical". I DID miss you though!

It sounds like a physical issue with the power button or the power supply. Is it a desktop or a laptop?

Yeah... CRAPPY ONES. Might as well go for a desktop, for the price of a laptop you get a desktop with about twice the storage space and RAM, as well as slightly better processor.

Yeah, but what do you need all that extra power for?  Unless one plays computer games a lot, even the weakest laptops nowadays should be fast enough for all your daily needs.  I gladly sacrifice (unnecessary) extra power for portability, which can be pretty damn handy for a student.  Perun's also a student, which is why I suggested a laptop.  I have a cheap Acer laptop, and I couldn't live with a desktop nowadays.

Goodluck Per, hope all will be OK soon.

And welcome back to you Deano! I missed your short return in September due to own absence. ;)

It is still a luxury. One can use the computer labs at the school itself... But you're right, When I was at the university it was nice to be able to type my notes.
