I'd love to hear that! Hopefully a show will be filmed for DVD.

The recent fad of bands playing entire classic albums live has now officially gone too far.
The only "classic" album that's been played as far as I know, is British Steel with Priest. What have I missed?

Megadeth (see metal news forum), and Dio come to mind.
Metalllica and Dream Theater also might have done this.

I would say that Paul Di'Anno has more cause to do this than most, having appeared on (and contributed to) such a seminal album, without reaching those heights again (as much as I like his later work).
It should be good, and unfortunately I'm due to leave Australia right before that tour; plus he never seems to play in England.  ::)

That's right, Metallica played Master of Puppets in its entirety in 2006.

Judas Priest - British Steel
Dio - Holy Diver (there is also a live album of that)
Slayer - Reign in Blood
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Megadeth - Rust in Peace
Deep Purple - Machine Head
Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime

These are the ones I know of. And yes, it is becoming rather annoying.

I had the "pleasure" of witnessing mr. Di Anno's performance a few months ago, I can only say that he and his band suck really really bad.

He has a different band every year, or not?

I saw him some years ago and thought it was excellent, apart from his voice because he had a cold.

Maiden did AMOLAD live didn't they?
Also DT did NOTB.

But A Matter of Life and Death isn't a classic album, and Number of the Beast isn't Dream Theater's classic album, so they don't really count. I also think Dream Theater did other albums live.
Another indicator of how boring they are, in my opinion.

Didn't Motley Crue recently perform Dr. Feelgood in its entirety?

And that's some small "spoiler" text Perun. I had to copy and paste it into Word to see what you had to say.

I'll admit that when I saw Maiden for the first time, it was on the AMOLAD tour. After buying my tickets, I found out they were playing AMOLAD from start to finish, and I have to admit, I was disappointed. But that disappointment quickly turned to excitement once I actually saw the show. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

But do I really want to go see Judas Priest play British Steel or Megadeth play Rust in Peace? Not really. Though sadly, with the few concerts that seem to come around anymore, you end up having to take advantage of any opportunity to see a metal show.

But it's like anything, once someone achieves success in some entertainment medium, everyone sees the success and jumps on the bandwagon. It's the same reason you see some type of TV show get popular, and then suddenly there are half a dozen shows that copy the premise.

Don't get me wrong, I understand this is a current trend that bands are jumping on to reinvigorate ticket sales, but it's getting old. You imagine the management of bands going in to them and saying, "C'mon guys...everybody's clammoring to see Pride played live! White Lion will have a second coming...okay, so maybe a first coming...in the states!"

My sincere apologies to the boys, but I'd pass on that concert.  :D

They've done others, yes. They did Master of Puppets, The Dark Side Of The Moon and Made In Japan.

However, I don't necessarily agree that makes them
boring
. After all, they played those after playing a full set with their own music.

Add to that:
PInk Floyd-The Wall
Pink Floyd-Dark Side Of The Moon
Iron Maiden-AMOLAD
Nine Inch Nails-The Download Spiral
Rush-2112
Queensryche-Promised Land

ISIS played Oceanic in its entirety for the All Tomorrows Parties festival in London and the live CD is unbelievable. The sound is as organic and full as the studio version. I wish I'd been at the show. The cd ISIS released of the show gives me great listening pleasure.

I wish I'd seen the AMOLAD tour and would happily trade my Fear Of The Dark Tour gig and one of my Somewhere Back In Time gigs for an AMOLAD gig experience.

I am planning to see Paul Di'Anno in Sydney.

Classic albums, which means the albums should be played years later. Apart from Dark Side of the Moon & The Wall (which are good examples, though I guess Roger Waters played The Wall in a later phase, and not Pink Floyd), I assume these bands played their complete albums when they came out?

And when did Rush do this? I can't remember they ever did.

Hmm, Paul Di'Anno doing Maiden covers... what else is new.

This is incorrect. Paul has done this before. It seems he rarely plays his own material.

It's indeed incorrect - my fist Maiden gig had exactly that on the set-list.

Not quite correct. While indeed a lot of tracks he plays on his gigs are from the Maiden albums, he does play his own stuff too.

Add Bruce Springsteen, the Pixies and Opeth to the list.  First, from Opeth's website:

"We’ll be playing the Blackwater Park album in its entirety followed by another set which will include songs we’ve rarely or never played live before. All in all more than two hours of Opeth. Exciting times for our band and we hope that you’ll be there to share it with us!"

And, here is a marginally interesting (and mercifully short) article from Esquire magazine on the subject:

When a Band Plays an Entire Album at a Concert: An LP-Load of Greatness, Live
November 24, 2009 at 4:00PM by Ross McCammon

The Pixies have been playing every song on their classic 1989 album Doolittle at shows across the United States. It's a gimmick, sure. Also, it's wonderful.

Every song on the album is a great song — even the songs that really shouldn't be on the album (and there are a couple that just don't fit in) are fantastic. And when you hear it in concert, in order? The first notes from Kim Deal's bass on the song "Debaser"'— the same notes you heard the first time you put the Doolittle CD in your Discman — mark the beginning of what you know will be a satisfying experience, a journey you are completely familiar with. You are about to have fun. For forty minutes at a minimum.

It's easy to hate this as an idea. But it's basically impossible to hate it as a show. Because if you are familiar with the album — really, really familiar — it's impossible not to have a good time. When Bruce Springsteen played the entire "Born in the USA" album at Giants Stadium in October, his fans had a good time. When a young band plays an entire album because they have no other music to play, their fans have a good time. Because they know what's coming. And because whatever else the band plays (and they can't not play something else) is that much more fantastic to experience.

But those other songs are a bonus. The album is a guarantee.
