Overall Favorite Albums

Interesting, I’ve always felt that DBTO was a much stronger follow up. But King Diamond is a god either way.

DBTO is definitely good with everything on the A-side being masterpieces, nearly up there with Melissa. The B-side starts to slip in quality in my opinion though.

For me it’s the other way around. Dangerous Meeting is awesome, the next three however aren’t quite on that level, while every song on the b-side is awesome. Pretty interesting reversal of opinions.

You can add Dance of Death and The Final Frontier to the Maiden list.

Since Live albums where banned there's a few missing from the list, Thin Lizzy "Live and Dangerous" would be straight in at number 1 favourite non-Maiden album. Strangers in the Night would also be up there. A few more the just missed out, some maybe because they aren't metal enough for the GMAC:

AC/DC - Powerage, Highway to Hell
Anthrax - Among the Living
Black Sabbath - Sabotage, Heaven and Hell, The Mob Rules
Blaze - Tenth Dimension
Boston - Boston
Bruce - Skunkworks, Accident of Birth, Chemical Wedding
Cheap Trick - At Budokan
The Cult - Electric
Danzig - Danzig
The Devil's Blood - The Time of No Time Evermore
Diamond Head - Lightning to the Nations
Dio - Holy Diver
Exodus - Bonded by Blood
Hell - Human Remains
Jethro Tull - Aqualung
Judas Priest - British Steel, Painkiller
Kiss - Alive
Led Zeppelin - 4
Lynyrd Skynrd - Pronounced
Marillion - Misplaced Childhood
Megadeth - Rust in Peace
Mercyful Fate -Melissa
Pink Floyd - Darkside of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, The Wall
Rainbow - Long Live Rock and Roll
Slayer - Show No Mercy, Hell Awaits, South of Heaven, Seasons in the Abyss, Divine Intervention
Suicidal Tendencies - Lights, Camera, Revolution
Thin Lizzy - Fighting, Jailbreak, Bad Reputation, Black Rose, Thunder and Lightning
Ugly Kid Joe - Menace to Sobriety
Van Halen - 1984
W.A.S.P. - W.A.S.P., The Headless Children
Wishbone Ash - Argus

My favourite albums overall!

12. KISS - KISS
One of the best debut albums of all time. Its rock n roll at its crudest form. Love the overall vibe of the songs.

11. Dream Theater - Images And Words
The guys from DT are masters of their craft but there is something about their second album, it has a perfect balance of technicality and a sense of magic.

10. Symphony X - The Divine Wings Of Tragedy
Perfectly captures the band's genius behind bringing Metal and elements of classical music together. The songs just feel majestic.

9. Shadows Fall - The War Within
Among the best modern Metal albums. Love their style of Thrash/Metalcore with hints of even Melo-death. I find the songs really enjoyable.

8. Anthrax - Among The Living
Anthrax rightfully deserves their place among the Big 4 and for me this is their best album. Awesome musicianship overall, with a tinge of humour.

7. Van Halen - Van Halen
Best debut album in my humble opinion! The songs, even though sharing a similar dynamic, are each better than the other. Legendary and a very fun record!

6. Metallica - Ride The Lightning
Best album by these legends! You have thrashers and also some unique songs which I think has always kept Metallica ahead in the game. The guitar tone and vocals have a very raw sound to them which I really like.

5. Judas Priest - Painkiller
Priest at the top of their game! Defintion of an 'all killer, no filler' record. Hard to pick a favourite song, its a complete metal meltdown (pun intended).

4. Iron Maiden - Somewhere In Time
My favourite album by my favourite band! The entire album has such an awesome flow that every song feels like a story in its own. Musicianship is top notch and again, the guitar tone is very unique.

3. Pantera - Cowboys From Hell
A groundbreaking album! Every member is at their peak. Each song captures the element of an album that would play a major role in shaping the future sound of metal. Had the production been a bit better, it could have been even higher.

2. Death - Symbolic
A great album from a great lineup. Chuck's songwriting is at it's best. Music is awesome. Really melodic leads, Gene Hoglan and Steve DiGorgio's keeping the rhythm section tight. The band was a force to reckon with!

1. Megadeth - Rust In Peace
THE essential metal album for me. Megadeth brings some of the best musicianship to the table. Each song is legendary.

...contd.

Sepultura - Beneath The Remains
Great Thrash album. Full of bludgeoning riffs and awesome drumming throughout. Mixing up a flair of extreme metal in it, Beneath is definitely a genre highlight.

Dokken - Under Lock And Key
Dokken albums from the 80s are all really good and they got more better with each one. However, I feel this album has a more variety and George Lynch's guitar tone is just phenomenal. Really great player. Don Dokken also has a nice voice.

Nevermore - Dead Heart In A Dead World
Hard to put Nevermore in a single genre. The production of the album is really smooth and adds a dynamic to it. Jeff Loomis shines throughout with his riffs and solos.
