Opeth Week on Maidenfans (Aug 31 - Sep 6, 2009)

That's what cracks me about Slayer. Tom Araya has said in many interviews he is Catholic and there is a difference between what he does in his private life and what he does on stage....
If people could just accept that what a lot of these bands do is for the theatre of it - nothing more.

As for Opeth, I am a long-time subscriber to emusic.com and they have around 6 albums by Opeth all of which I have got. But I only really only tend to listen to Blackwater Park. I'm not sure why I have not got on to the others, but this album is absolutely superb. Personally, I think the mixture of clean and gruff vocals work for me and the way it goes from a death metal sound to something that Pink Floyd would do makes it all the more interesting.

As for nominations, I thought I nominated Kreator in an earlier thread, if not accept this as a nomination for the German mettallers. And I'm sure we have at least one more person on this forum that appreciates them.

Oh the irony, i just listened to my first Opeth album today, Blackwater park.
I don't like growling so i avoided them but i felt like giving them a shot.
This album is awesome. The quiet parts arre superb and the death parts are really good too.
What i don't get is the dissonance in there music. It creates a really dark atmosphere without actually sounding off. It inspired me to write a song using this technique. It sounds horrible, but it's a great inspirationXD

Opeth Week is now over ... check out Rush Week!

Sadly, I never did get around to Opeth this past week. But it's still on my radar, so I haven't dropped my promise to post something meaningful here eventually.

I have been, slowly. I've been listening to Watershed in the car for a few days now. I like it so far, but I don't feel like I've really absorbed it much since I'm only hearing it in 20-minute chunks.

Sadly nobody who said they would check them out seems like they actually did :(

I have accessed the two albums recommended to me and listened to them both once, but not enough yet to really comment on them, other than "I thought they were pretty good but not my usual thing".  I was going to actually listen to them again before opening my fat mouth, since someone says that my usual comments aren't enough.

Just ordered Still Life on Amazon -- came with a remastered CD and a 5.1 DVD mix.  Awesome.  Good blend of light and heavy, as is their signature sound.  If you like Ghost Reveries and Watershed, you'll like this, too, though it was originally released several years earlier.
