Olympics, Bambino!

The Winter Olympics are ON! Anybody watching? I'm looking forward to the speed skating, luge, bobsled, skeleton and, of course, HOCKEY! Mexico did send a delegation. Our biggest hope for a medal is our figure skater Donovan Carrillo, young man has skills. Anyone else already watching?

As a Norwegian, I am obliged to watch and will probably spend too much time the next two weeks in front of the TV.

Our hockey team is sadly not qualified, but as always we have a large squad ready to compete in a lot of events. For the first time in many years, we have a strong speed skating team with both male and female winner candidates.

The biggest letdown for me personally is that we don't really have anyone who could aspire to win my favourite events, the downhill and Super G. Our best skiers in those are out with injury ☹️

As always, I am ready to be impressed by athletes I haven't noticed, in events I haven't been paying attention to :)

The broadcasters mentioned during the opening ceremony that Norway has the most medals, so I can see why you are pretty excited. I speaking of skiing, Lyndsay Von got hurt just before the Olympics, torn ACL I think. Is talking about still competing! At 41! That made me feel old, because I remember she won medals a while back.

I am pretty impressed by what Vonn already achieved after her comeback. If she actually competes at the Olympics despite suffering a pretty serious injury in the last race before the Games ... well, let's say it confirms my impression that those who compete in the fast alpine skiing disciplines are a special kind of crazy.

And this comes from a 43 year old guy who as recently as yesterday went down a ski slope at 80 km/h

Vonn with 3rd best time in today's training run. She is serious about doing this.

No big surprises in the men's downhill (except the Swiss winner being Von Almen and not Odermatt, not a big upset though) or the women's cross country skiing (well done to Frida Karlsson) today, but the women's 3000m speed skating saw a surprising home win. Ridiculously good race by LOLlobrigida ... happy for Ragne Wiklund, who is the first female Norwegian speed skater to win an Olympic medal since 1980.

Her kid hijacked the interview with NRK :D

And at the end of the first day, the first Norwegian gold winner - maybe somewhat surprising which makes it greater! Anna Odine Strøm defeated favourite Nika Prevc in the first ski jump event of the games

I missed LoLIs win, because I fell asleep lol. Woke up to curling. Changed it to figure skating, because my mom is a big fan. Been watching it on YouTube and it's great, you can pick and choose events, fast forward, rewind. Loving that. I'm not particularly happy the US placed first in rhythm dancing.
