Official Star Wars Thread

Got tickets today. ;) Wish me luck avoiding all the new footage and information surfacing online... Can't describe how excited I am for this film!

Btw. I'm finishing reading ('listening'* to be exact ;)) the new novel - Catalyst. Highly recommended for hardcore fans, who would like to know the background of Jyn Erso's parents and Director Krennic. No Rogue One spoilers at all (it takes place years before) but I can already tell that knowing the story of this book will make certain scenes in the film much more impactful.

*You can get the audiobook for free if you're new to Audible.com!

It's funny. I was really anxious to see TFA, but somehow, Rogue One doesn't seem to interest me at all. Even though I think the trailers looked cool.

My son and I are re-watching I-III to prepare for Rogue One. Just finished II. Forgot about the references in II about IV:

1. Obi-Wan tells Anakin "Why do I get the feeling you'll be the death of me?"
2. Anakin and Padme visit the Skywalker farm on Tatooine.
3. C3PO (while on the Skywalker farm) tells Anakin R2D2 has a message for him from someone named Obi-Wan Kenobi.
4. Obi-Wan cuts off an opponent's arm in a bar (after using a Jedi Mind Trick).
5. Padme's ear muff hair style while on Tatooine.

References to V:

1. When R2 puts 3PO's head back on, 3PO asks if his head is on straight.
2. Anakin has his arm cut off by Dooku (Luke's is cut off by Vader in V).
3. Chase through an asteroid field.
4. Anakin sees a vision of his mother in pain and rushes off to rescue her. Luke's sees a vision of Han in pain and rushes off to rescue him.
5. A Tyrannus hires Jango Fett. In V, Vader hires Boba Fett.

There were others; these are just the ones I recall...

Really enjoy II better than I due to:

1. darker
2. more links to later films.
3. better finale with many Jedi in action while finally seeing the start of the Clone Wars (not to mention how hot Padme looks in that outfit during her time on Geonosis)

I always liked II and thought it was pretty underrated... while III also being very overrated. That said, I really like all seven movies in general - I might be critical regarding some of them, but they still mean a lot to me. Along with the Jedi Outcast series - I used to have this custom about Christmas when I'd put on the hexalogy and then play Dark Forces I & II, Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy and it really used to underscore the Christmas atmosphere for me. :D

Never realised the following

1. When R2 puts 3PO's head back on, 3PO asks if his head is on straight.
4. Anakin sees a vision of his mother in pain and rushes off to rescue her. Luke's sees a vision of Han in pain and rushes off to rescue him.

However this might have been the most obvious
4. Obi-Wan cuts off an opponent's arm in a bar (after using a Jedi Mind Trick).

Watched ep 3 & noticed when the Jedi go to arrest Palpatine, they have no legal right to do so. He cannot be charged with treason or war crimes because, other than Anakin's statement of Palpatine's confession of being a Sith, there is no proof to use in a court to convict Palpatine. Even being a Sith is not illegal. As stated in the novelization, that is a religious choice that is protected by the Constitution of the Republic.

So when Anakin tells Padme the Jedi tried to take control of the Republic and assasinate Palpatine, from a legal standpoint, he is correct. However, Anakin is also guilty of this when he tells Padme he can overthrow Palpatine and rule in his place.

There's a lot of arguments to be made about how flawed Jedi were, but it shouldn't be treated as a shot at the story. In fact that's a fascinating issue.

Anyway... Rogue One tomorrow! :dancinggeek: Gee... Whole months of intense anticipation and once again (just like in case of TFA) I'm strangely calm now that it's basically here... I don't know why I react like this instead of going crazy out of excitement. :P Maybe subconsciously the hype worn me out a little bit and now I'm like "Ok, just show it to me already". I'm sure the thrill will hit as soon as I enter the cinema!

Problem is that George Lucas didn't frame the story to make the jedi look like bad guys. It happened as a result of bad character writing and lazy storytelling.

Rogue One:
I liked it, however... I was really tired so I kind of zoned out for about 20 minutes in the middle of the movie so I'll have to see it again to connect some dots  However, visually it was as great as TFA, end battle was incredible and however depressing it is, it was right that everyone died. Outstanding CGI on resurrecting Tarkin and young Leia at the end.
