Odds this is the last Maiden tour?

slim. If Black Sabath, Pink floyd, Alice Cooper, Pat Benetar, etc are still touring... Maiden will too

Black Sabbath isn't. They don't have a singer anymore, as of today. :(

Pink Floyd isn't. Roger Waters is, but that's not Floyd, even if Waters is playing Floyd music.

And how did Pat Benatar (note the spelling) get into this thread? Love her music, but how?

I suspect this might be the last album, and therefore the last tour promoting a new studio album. But they'll do history tours and such :)

True true. Well just saying quite a few "oldies," like Heart, Steve Miller Band, America, Pat Benatar, etc still tour... so why shouldn't Maiden? It happens.

Let them continue touring. That only means they're planning to make another album (a farewell tour excluded of course).

Maiden have stated more than once that they'll totally quit after "a" final album (plus accompanying final tour).

That's scenario A:
As long as Maiden won't call The Final Frontier tour their final tour, I keep that possibility open, yes (though a next album doesn't have to be their final album either).

Scenario B:
1. Album tour
2. quitting statement
3. Farewell tour.

= as likely as A.

Scenario C:
1. Stating that the next/latest album is their last
2. they keep touring for years
= impossible scenario

It's entirely possible they chose the name "The Final Frontier" to take the piss out of us.

I just find it incredibly hard to believe that Final Frontier is actually their last album due to the fact that they haven't said so thus far. A group as insanely in touch with their fans as Maiden would keep no secrets about this (IMO). I know about the "'Arry has said in the past that he wanted to do 15 albums" theory... I'm just not buying it. They'll keep writing as long as they still enjoy it, and clearly we've yet to see any signs of them slowing down.

Same here, especially since I read this on the official Maiden forum, two months ago:

------
fan 1:
I almost sure this is the last studio album from Iron Maiden, steve has said, that after 15 studio albums, he will stop...

fan 2:

This continuing lie pisses me off.
1) Steve said that back in the day he had picture Maiden doing 15 records.
2) He then said, like right away and stuff, that he hoped they would do more.

So the 15 quote means nix, nada, nothing. Got it???

-------

In other words: Steve did say something about 15 albums, some time ago, but if I want to believe optimistic fan 2 (which I am too ;) ), he said other stuff as well.

This is what I had always suspected about those rumors... that something Steve said long, long ago was taken out of context and everyone started believing it because it was a conspicuous remark. You and I and everyone here that matters knows that Steve would be up front if this was their last album... As long as Steve still has the drive to write, Maiden will write.

I highly doubt it. Just look at the energy Maiden still has when playing live. Not a single sign that says they're too old for that stuff. I'd say they'll play at least for the next five years.

The next album may be their last (when thinking about the title), but maybe that's just a gag. In 1986 a certain song was written that said there would be no brave new world, and look what happened in the year 2000 :P

The whole issue with the title is totally fan created, in my opinion. It would be so tacky of them to have the name of their last album reflect that they're done recording... it would be rather narcissistic, something Maiden tends to not be at all.

If this is the last tour, will they announce more dates? I cant make Sonisphere and I cant afford to travel to see the band at the moment. So unless they do, I'm stuffed. Also, even if they do more albums, will they still expand this tour. Either way, one bloody gig in mainland UK is pretty poor IMO. Surely they gotta do more.

Someone please reassure me...............

I don't think so. They still sound fantastic so why would they stop? There are many old bands out there that sound like shit (in all honesty) and still continue. AC/DC are in their late 50s and 60s and they've been on tour for the past two years supporting their last album.

On more than one occasion, Bruce has stated that when he and Adrian rejoined the band they put together a 10 year plan. They rejoined in 2000 and it's now 2010?????? Don't know if this is the last tour, but if it is I'm glad I got my tickets for the Chicago show
