Elegant Weapons - Evolution

Richie comes up with cool riffs and licks, as always. The album is a nice listen, their sound has evolved a bit, which is good, but the album has no song like Do Or Die from the debut. The material can feel samey and run-of-the-mill, but overall it is better than the debut. I think he's saving his metal ideas for Priest.

highlights: ''Come Back To Me'', ''Generation Me'', ''Evil Eyes'' and I guess ''Keeper Of The Keys''.

Evil Eyes - good song for an opener. Probably the most Priest song on the album. Great heavy riff (Priest vibe), nice verses and working chorus. I like the riff under the cool solo. Melodic stuff.

Generation Me - samey riff (could have been used with Priest, Escape From Reality?), catchy chorus, early 2000s vibe. Strong solo. A good opening pair.

Bridges Burn - nice riffing and chorus, but that's it.

Holy Roller - a filler imo.

Come Back To Me - Richie said he rarely writes ballads and he's had this idea for about 15 years. Beautiful song, instant favorite. Melancholic is the best (especially the chorus). Another cool calm intro melody. The chorus would be good with Rob's vocals too. It has such an old-school vibe, kudos. Impactful solo at the end. I'd like to hear it with Priest.

The Devil Calls - synth intro (Richie loves synth wave, like we can hear in Panic Attack), a bit of a Moonchild vibe. Brutally good metal riff (very 80s), slower verses (not a good choice), boring chorus, heavy verse riff.
- the intro lick is inspired by Richie's short Guitar Solo live in 2022 before Diamonds & Rust.

Thrown To The Wolves - dirty riff, 90s-esque verses, weak chorus, some nice vocals in the middle. Richie shredding.

Shooting Shadows - really cool short calm intro (it definitely could have been a Priest idea of his), pure thrash metal riff (interesting one), nice chorus, but it sounds disjointed from the verses. Samey structure too. Cool solo.

Rupture (instrumental) - cool intro with acoustic(?) vibe and more keys. Metal riff, nice playing along, Richie with cool phrasing. It's cool he added a shorter instrumental to his catalogue.

Mercy Of The Fallen - nice continuation of the previous piece. Rock riff, nice verses, change of pace chorus with a quite different melody (interesting one), but again it sounds disjointed. A heavier riff before the solo. Typical Richie solo, the idea of first slow, then fast is good. This song should have been stronger.

Keeper Of The Keys - the longest song at 7 minutes. Big Purple-esque riff, the intro is Dio Rainbow. Slow tempo, the chorus fits. Great solos.

Listening to the new Elegant Weapons album - “Come Back to Me” is very Maidenish. That melodic figure immediately brings to mind “The Man Who Would Be King.”

Uh-oh - swagger and a bluesy groove detected… quick, someone shout AC/DC! Relax, it’s just Maiden kicking the door in with From Here to Eternity

“Too simple,” they say - yeah, because every track clearly needs a PhD in time signatures, right? Or maybe - just maybe - you hit the throttle, enjoy the ride, and let it swing.
Not everything has to be a dissertation; sometimes it just has to rock. Always liked From Here to Eternity.
