NOW PLAYING

I bought the 2016 Blackened Recordings CD version. I was pretty disappointed when I unpacked the parcel - the album wasn’t in a jewel case but in one of those cardboard sleeves (the e-shop didn’t specify anything, just “CD”).

But then I listened to it again after several years? of abstinence, and oh boy - this album absolutely slaps and kicks ass. It was obvious right from the start that these guys were going to go far. The musicianship is on a very high level. Hell, James Hetfield was only about 19–20 years old when they recorded this album. That’s extraordinary.

I really like how this record sounds. It’s fresh and clean, spacious and relentless. To my ears it doesn’t sound dated at all. Those chugging guitars and biting solos - just pure, relentless youthful energy. Like a mountain river in spring: icy, stormy, and swirling. A car speeding down a highway at night. A truly great start for a great band.
