Two of his mist controversial albums. Either you love them or hate them. I love both!
Secretely hoping for a skunkworkish approach on TMP2.
This is actually true. But I really doubt we will hear Skunkworks-vibes on the new album, despite the guitarists being big fans of the album and the hard rock feel in some TMP songs (Many Doors, Rain, Wounds, Mirror, even some parts from Mistress). Bruce already mentioned really heavy stuff and some acoustic parts for it.

SW is a very different style and Bruce didn't want it to be a solo album of his at first, so it's understandable. TMP mixed reviews are more curious because while being experimental, it's closer to his previous 3 albums. And I don't think the ideas are weaker than SW, BTP and even TOS. If I have to list some possible reasons:
- not heavy, aggressive and fast enough material (as most fans expected).

- songs like Rain and Sonata (mainly the length) are big departures even for his solo career (and not what most fans want from it).

- it is improved, but we already knew Eternity.

- a fully acoustic song can't be a big highlight (unless it's Navigate).

- Mistress sounds like a leftover from AOB (one of the most metal songs with a cool chorus and melodies though).

- the epic Shadow lacking any solos or repeats (even worse than Hell On Earth, Rain didn't need the repetition more).

- Resurrection Men is pure BTP and unfinished (most fans probably like the heavy middle part).

- Afterglow has no instrumental section...

I can really like it and enjoy it, but I can see the issues.

So that leaves Afterglow (vocal ideas), Many Doors (could have been on a previous solo album of his), Wounds (even with the keys, same as Many Doors) and Shadow as the most memorable and highlights. Eternity goes without saying. Then are Mistress and Mirror.

I really believe that the never-heard songs - Nightmares and TCW leftover - could have improved the album, I really do.

NP: Flash Of The Blade, inspired by Bruce's tour. What a pure Maiden joy! :rocker:
