NOW PLAYING

I was today years old when I found out that THIS was what Wes Borland was doing outside of Limp Bizkit and I think nothing could prepare me for that knowledge. Like, I crashed, a blue screen of death.

Such songs resonate with me deeply—truly on an epic level. The sound is a bit The Book of Souls-like? Chugging relentlessly to the end of eternity.

This a great song by Magnum. The riffs, instrumental section/solo, galloping, chorus melody is memorable. I feel this is the kind of a hard rock/driving rhythm, longer solos, melodic and prominent keys that Bruce's new solo album could deliver.

The chorus has a Maiden Reunion vibe, maybe the sound too.

Absolutely beautiful album. Rising is their best album and Long Live Rock N Roll has two of their best songs, but there is such a medieval glory to that first record. Catch The Rainbow is a perfect song.

I remember hearing it for the first time ever, I didn't know anything about Rainbow apart from that it was the band Blackmore started when he left Purple (whom I liked, but I always felt they didn't have too much quality control) - I was about 14 and my class has been to some kind of classical educational concert (not bad, but not what I was into then) and then the class walked all over town back to school as usual. I remember pulling out my first MP3 player, I think it was either this one or very similar

and finally trying out Ritchie Blacmore's Rainbow. And I was completely floored, I didn't want to talk to any of my schoolmates for the rest of the day. From the first notes of Silver Mountain to the haunting notes of Still I'm Sad, every song was catchy (even the generic barroom romp If You Don't Like Rock 'n' Roll had some Steinmanesque moments near the chorus), every song rocked out, the album went down like a most tasteful food you'd ever had. I literally thought to myself, in my 14-year old arrogance, lol, how can people be so terribly stupid so as not to listen to this for the entirety of their lives, lol.

I have discovered many albums later and some I liked more at various points in time... but I don't think I've ever heard anything this revelatory.

BTW, wifey also has this one as one of the best albums ever, she told me so relatively recently.
